How Many Seats On BA's Long-haul B767's?

Wed Apr 04, 2007 7:11 pm

Could someone please tell me how many seats are on BA's Boeing 767s, and how many seats are in each class? (CW, WTP, WT)

The reason I ask is.....if BA ordered the B787-300 or B787-800 (I think they are the same length and would be configured the same?), how many seats could BA configure for these aircraft? Could it be a direct replacement for their B767's or are they different in size?

Many thanks.

The 787-8 would be the closest to their 767-300s in terms of capacity, presuming they dont want to replace the 767s with larger aircraft.

The have 24 C/W seats, 24 WT+ seats and about 144 WT seats. So about...192 seats in total, I could be wrong, but that's about right give or take a few seats.

The 767s seating arrangements are:

For the new 767 fitted with the New Club World Cabins:

24 New Club World
24 WTP
144 World Traveller

This is the obsolete cabin (not sure if theyre all gone but I think they are Smile

8 First
36 Club World
137 World Traveller

As for the 787, I thik unfortunately that if we see an order it will be for a small number, no more than 20, simply to rpelace the 763s and maybe aid some less popular long-haul routes being started, maybe from MAN Big grin

It will be the 787-8 if they do order

Cheers BA787

Was this the configuration used on the MAN-JFK route, before all the B767's were 'dusked'?

Can't imagine their being THAT much premium traffic between these two cities?

Nope, the MAN-JFK route didn't have a First Class cabin. Just Club and World Traveler

Yep, all the 767's are now dusked.

Im not sure, I think so, but the 767 was and still isn't the right aircraft for the route. BA have long said that the 777 would be better suited to the route, they just don't have one to spare, or rather the spare can be put to more important LHR work. But yes, for an unsuitable a/c, the 767 is better suited in this configuration.

Didn't know the loads on the MAN-JFK were that high to grant a B777?

Didn't BA have 247-seat B763s in the 1990's? I had a timetable with seat maps from the late 90's... I guess they were the Euro-configs...? How long did they last in that config?

The MAN-JFK route is very very popular, hence why BA kept it on. They were willing to transport crews from LHR and make numerous compromises to continue the route. They have long said the popularity warrants a 777, but the 777s are so sought after that they cannot get one as yet. Time will tell, would be ace to see a BA777 @ MAN

I swear I always see spare BA widebody jets on the apron at LHR. Surely if they did some re-scheduling of some of their current LHR routes, they could find a single B777 to do the route?

Yep, they are the Short-Haul fleet 767's. BA still have a very small number of S/H 767's left in that configuration at the moment.

Yep, that's why they always had the same aircraft doing MAN-JFK until last year, because it was the only one with that configuration.

If you mean the parked up at the hangars at LHR (big yellow buildings by the 27R runway), they're no free, they're either scheduled for maintenance or have come out of maintenance and are waiting their next flight. BA's fleet is operating at pretty much full capacity, they simply don't have spare aircrafts.

I flew that route in March. There were about 4 empty seats in C and WT+ was full, WT was virtually full. Also the whole of the forward hold was taken up by cargo.
