Interesting note on this topic, I just received a call from Frontier Airlines Customer Relations, because it annoys me when I download the PDF timetable off their webpage, and they show a route map and flights from SEPT2006. Little bit outdated for an airline doing so well and growing/changing so rapidly, but anyways, called and left them a message just last night, and with a quickness, got a call back this morning bout 830.
After working on that topic, the customer relations rep asked me any other discussion or comments I might have, so we ended up talking just about an hour, but, I mentioned the jet switch from Horizon to Republic and I was talking about how Republic is applying for Mexico exemptions for their E170 a/c flying under the Frontier banner, and he talked about how they tried to retro the E170 with the DirectTV like mainline F9
a/c have, but it was unsuccessful because the launch would have been delayed dramatically to achieve installation and then certification. From there, we started talking then about Lynx and the upcoming launch, but wow, he had little to no information and was so uninformed that it was annoying. I mentioned how within the group of 10 commercial airline consultants I assist, all 10 of us prefer the Dash-8-400 to the CRj700, and he went on telling me all about a flight he just had on the east coast on a Dash8 and that he could't really tolerate it. So I'm thinking as we are talking, Dash-8-400 on the east coast, nope, no way, so I continue asking a couple questions, and he actually flew on a Dash-8-200 and was thinking that's what was arriving for the Lynx operations and he didn't understand the different variations and I was trying to work with him and explain that the -400 is a whole different airplane than the -200. Finally, he wasn't getting my point, and I had to use, it's like this, the Airbus, comes in what sizes, different ones, right, like the A318, little bit bigger, the A319, want some more people with a couple extra overwing exits, then you get the A320, want more doors and a lot more people, you can have that too with the A321. Then he realized what I was getting at and while we were still on the computer I had him download info and pics on the -400 and he was in agreement that this wasn't the a/c he flown, his was much smaller of an a/c, and then he was surprised by layouts, range, and performance specs. Interesting how little to no information he had on the Dash-8-400 and Lynx, but that's okay.
Before we did end the call, he did add more about the A320 coming on line and some info about that which was new for me and still is, thought they ordered the smaller a/c with options for the larger, but couldn't recall at the time. Lastly, he made a comment about besides MEM
coming online, expect further point to point flying mainly on stations east of DEN
, but there were 1 or 2 exceptions that were in review from west coat cities, so, hhhmmmm, what could Frontier be looking at now is what I'm wondering. Guess let's see how the MEM
flights and loads pan out.
