AC 777 Coming To YYZ Tonight.

Thu Apr 05, 2007 4:51 am

Spotters. I know the w/x is pretty poor but ACs 777 is coming to YYZ tonight.

Here's the details.

It's being operated as AC 7053. It's due to leave YUL at 1800. That time is likely to vary a bit because it's a Ferry flight and they never leave on time. It is then coming and doing 3 touch and go's then blocking into the gate.

Tommorow it is slated to operate Rapidair flight 400.

Hope this helps.

Sixty.

Sixty,

Thanks for the news --

I am pretty sure I'll be out there. Crazy as that is in this WX!

Thanks again man!

I'll have to listen to ATC to get the runway when it comes in. If it's doing the touch & go's on 24L/R, I can watch it from my balcony (I live at the twin towers on Weston Rd & 401, facing approach path, 25th floor). If not then I'll be out. I can work late for this one.

The only thing I would perhaps caution is the touch and go part. They could opt to go to YTR for them as that is a regular spot AC uses for such things, but that wasn't mentioned.

I have heard but not confirmed that it is doing a huge amount of rapidairs tommorow so hopefully thats true and the w/xs better.

That would be worth the flight up to Montreal..... The Tango fare tomorrow is only CAD$69.00

It looks like it is scheduled for 3 Rapidairs from Montreal to Toronto tomorrow - all pretty close together too. I thought the first flight was going to be to LHR? I wonder if that has been canceled/pushed.

No it doesn't.

A recent post in the other thread on this subject had this to say:

"There's enough topics out there on AC & the 777's, but looks like the first Rapidair Flight is being moved up by a day. Aircraft was delivered on Saturday, and being launched into revenue service 4 days later. Boeing's great work must have meant limited pre-service modifications.

As it stands now....

AC423/04 April YUL1800/YYZ1920
AC428/04 April YYZ 2100/YUL2213"

Also, not only is AC 400 a 77W tomorrow, AC 401 leaving YYZ at the same time is also a 77W!! So now we know what the big surprise announcement was - the second 777 has also been delivered  Smile

The info about flights 400/401 is from www.aircanada.ca

the schedule for tommorow makes no sense at all... there are 3 77W flights YYZ-YUL, but only one YUL-YYZ?... i think AC is changing the 77W schedule.

EDIT:L yes it changing, AC401 is now a 321, now its AC417 15:00 16:18 77W YUL-YYZ only 77W and 2 YYZ-YUL... i dunno they are tweaking something

When I talked to the d/xer he was talking mostly about today. The way he mentioned tommorows flights sounded like those plans were changing by the minute.

I ain't saying this for people looking to take a trip on the plane. It's for the spotters. A little less jeopardy there.

Oh, and if you don't like the info. Ignore it.

Hey, I posted an apology but it got taken off.

The info I'm passing along is for spotters. Anyone taking this info and buying a ticket would be stupid. The amount of change going on with the sked for this thing is wild. Unless I had tons of cash I'd be waiting until this thing was in and settled before beleiving anything on the AC website, or here of course, pertaining to what flight this thing will actually operate.

Of and as for the salt. I'm prepared for that, and should expect it. Not too much though, it's bad for blood pressure.

I just thought I'd say I appreciate your efforts to keep us up to date as to the acitivities of the first 77W. Altho, sadly, there are those among us who expect your information to be 100% accurate and flame you for any errors, there are also those among us who appreciate your heads up on possible flights for this aircraft. I'm booked on AC856 on may 4th and am looking forward to my first 77W flight, and its been interesting reading the posts from you and others about the progress of the aircraft as it enters service. Keep up the good work!

I guess I'll have to get up at 05:00 tomorrow to catch AC 400 which leaves at 07:00. At least there should be a good choice of seats.

I have a 5-hour layover at YYZ on Monday morning and would like to catch the 777's 11:25 a.m. arrival from LHR from outside the airport. At this point, winds are supposed to be from the west, which if true should mean 23 and the 24s will be in use. I'm pretty familiar with the main spotting locations on the east side of YYZ, and I'd be up for a stiff walk, even over to Wendy's. Is it pretty much a crapshoot whether the LHR flight would use 24L or 23? I'd hate to walk all that way only to see the 777 land a couple of miles away on the parallel runway. I'm not entirely opposed to renting a cheap car, but if I can save $40 that would be nice.

I had heard speculation from the most well informed of sources (i.e., this forum) that it would be doing training flights in and out of YHM, and was very excited as I live under one of the approach paths...

This was almost certainly what they were going to do. Airlines frequently do the first few flights with a fleet type on a short to medium haul run in order to shakedown the aircraft. The first 744 flew MSP-PHX.

With my experience flying into YYZ, the bottom line is it's indeed a crapshoot.

If they are using 24's/23, here would be my guideline. Anybody from the west is likely to land on the north side unless coming in over YWT. From the south, obviously they'll stick with the south and from the north, the north. Easy enough.

From the east though, which is where it will be coming from, who knows. Time of day will have a big impact. If it's real busy, they'd likely send the heavies to the northside so they don't get backed up separation wise on the 24's where theres likely more departures waiting as well. However, the caveat, if the crew asks for 24 many times arrival will work them in if theres a space.

When I've arrived from the east while they're landing east, the majority of the time it's on the northside. With T1 being pretty much neutral, crews generally aren't bugging atc for the south for taxi in reasons.

When I've arrived from the east while they're landing east, the majority of the time it's on the northside. With T1 being pretty much neutral, crews generally aren't bugging atc for the south for taxi in reasons.

Thanks for the replies - sounds like I'll have to gamble. I really don't want to rent a car for 3 hours so perhaps my best plan of attack will be to just walk over to the Wendy's area by 23 (brrrr...). Even if I don't get the Triple-7 there should still be something to see. I'll be riding on the thing 90 minutes after it arrives anyway, so perhaps I can get it at the gate at YYZ or in Montreal after I arrive there. I have yet another connection at YUL, more than long enough for me to wait for the 777 to depart back to YYZ and hopefully get a shot of it clear of ramp equipment after it pushes back for the return flight. I hope the sun angle from the terminal is correct at YUL...

Here's another question: the 777 arrives in YYZ from LHR at 11:25 a.m. on Monday, and my flight to YUL using the same plane leaves at 12:50. Can I expect the YUL flight will use the same gate as the LHR arrival, or will they tow it to another gate for my domestic departure?

There are some "swing gates" allowing for International/Transborder flights to be parked in relatively the same area.

LHR arrival > YUL departure will involve a tow. They're going to hustle with that kind of turn time.

Yep saw it last night, was at gate 124 around 11pm. Cannot wait to work on it, very long aircraft. They pushed back around the same time and were asking apron to do some taxiing practice. After that they taxied it onto gate 175. Saw it waiting for departure this morning around 8am, not sure of headingm YUL probably,
