China has made it clear that it is interested in producing commercial jet aircraft. And with the troubles Airbus is facing, it seems that there is room for another player in the airframe industry. We sometimes hear about the commuter jet companies building larger aircraft, but what about the ex-Soviet Union companies?
From what I have been able to dig up on them most have designs but are unable to actively fund them enough to bring them into production. What is the potential, and likelihood, of perhaps an outside company, say American or European, coming in and either partnering or buying out one of those companies? Would they have enough of a head start on design and production to come up with viable aircraft in a quick enough time to compete?
