Interesting that the FO has a beard. I didn't think that was allowable in the cockpit, due to oxygen mask concerns...

In English?...

Seems like a shoddy place to have the ipod and cradle, distracting almost. The FO looks like Inzamam Ul-Haq. (not just because of the beard)

is that allowed on US airlines? i would think its a no-no for flight crews although it would be really cool....maybe only at cruising alt?

When I worked for OH we had a FO that used to play music on his MP3 player in the morning... he used to rubber-band the headphones to the PA mic (ghetto 'eh)...

But it always made the 4am security sweep of the aircraft a little more enjoyable...

So what kind of music would some Pakistani's be jamming to?

I can see it now...some Pink Floyd for the entire cabin. I'm sure they'd love it.

I worked a Comair a few months ago where the CA had his MP3 player hooked into the headphones. He was playing music all during boarding and before push he asked if I had any requests. Funny guy, maybe they're related.

FAA can tend to get a little torqued off when non-TSO'd stuff gets hooked up to the aircraft...

Yeah, it's nitnoid, but folks need to watch their 6.... Ain't worth the violation...

I'm looking into an adaptor to hook my ipod to the headset for those long x/c's. Flew with a friend in his Yak-52 the other day, was real nice to have some background music...whenever we hit the ICS or the radio, it would cut out and then fade back in real smooth once we were done. Breaks up the monotony a bit.

If its real, it might be used to play music for the call to prayer. (just a thought)

Judging the pics, I suppose it's a simulator ...

Actually, if you look closely you will see that the displays are powered. You can even make out nav points on the ND. Also, look at the power setting on the throttle quadrant; not at idle. Zoomed in, the autopilot altitude on the right side is set at FL370. My guess is it's a stimulator, but one never knows..

Looks too clean to be an aircraft, has to be a sim.

Upon further thought, having music playing while on a sim check would be abnormal. I'd want all the concentration I could muster for all the other countless emergencies without the iPod up there. I bet it would slide off in an abnormal attitude situation too.. just some thoughts that make me go hmmm.

I suppose you mean simulator. Not sure you want pilots stimulating themselves at FL370.  biggrin

People you don't have to look any further than the landing gear handle being up! If it's a real plane it has to be in the air.

If it's a simulator...I don't know why they'd have an iPod hooked up and I don't know why they'd be in the simulator wearing their uniforms either.

Also the pilots have a cloth between the seatbelt and them...another indication that they are not in the sim.

I think you are all missing the point here. Whether you are in a simulator or operating an actual flight makes no difference here. Real emergencies crop up without warning just like simulated ones. This is pretty unprofessional either way. Had they been involved in a real emergency and a subsequent investigation revealed this lot was in the cockpit there would be hell to pay. You may think its cool but any distraction in a cockpit is asking for trouble, simulated or otherwise.

I believe it is used for the call to prayer. That's the one thing most, except for one or two, on here are missing. If that's the case, then I have no problem with that at all. But if it is being used just to "pass the time", then I don't know if I like their choice for amusment in the cockpit. LOL!!! It's still a little odd looking setting up there. Could be worse though. They could've had their cell phones out talking on them too.

Many are ex Pakistan Air force pilots, so you might want to look at bribing smebody to get Pakistani citizabship as an 'in' to get the ball rolling. I can honestly say that is the first time I've ever heard anyone say they want to be a pilot for PIA.

Except when a choice needs to be made between the fulfillment of religious belief or obligation and dealing with an in-flight emergency. I would seriously doubt that is what it is there for.  Smile
