How Much Time To Catch An A300, 762, 734 In U.S.?

Sat Apr 07, 2007 12:40 am

On my list of airlines & airliners I would like to catch a flight on (in the U.S.) before they are all gone:

1. A^A A300
2. DL or A^A 762
3. USAirways or Alaska 734

How much time are these birds going to be around, so that I may plan accordingly?

(No need to mention the Diesel-9s of NWA...been on plenty now) Wink

1. A^A A300

Plenty of time

2. DL or A^A 762

DL's already gotten rid of theirs, but AA's will be around for some time to come

3. USAirways or Alaska 734

US is deciding now what will replace theirs, so might wanna hurry on that one.

What about Continental?

Albeit their oldest 762 isn't even 7 years old, but it's still the -200 model...

Good catch...I forgot about them...I think I might have been thinking national routes only.

Alaska has just recently brought online the 737-400 combi to take over for the -200 combi ---- So I imagine you have plenty of time to catch a ride on a -400 in the US....

AS is turning 734s into convertible planes so they should remain in pax service in the fleet for some time to come.

EWR-IAH 2x daily on 762ER, which obviously changes depending on the summer schedules. Also, the 762s will be the first to go once they have enough 788s.

Yeah I'm not real sure about that. US is replacing 757-200s with possible 737-900ERs. There is no indication US will get more A320s or 737-800s to replace the 734s. Nor can an E-jet replace a 734. I see US keeping the 734 for years to come.

Also, US and CO both operate the 762ER and will for some years yet, since no aircraft really exactly can replace it except the much heavier 330-200.

W/o knowing the background, or the latest, on this bit of info...why wouldn't USAirways just get more A321s?

***Also, thanks to the folks who added to the national 762 route info...

Because they are not getting rid of their 734s, for one reason, so 739ER are not complete oddballs. Also, since they are replacing Boeings, they are not averse to replace them with Boeings, for better leverage.

The RFP is for 739ER or A321, IIRC, so it's a competition, but don't assume the A321 is going to win out of hat. The 739ER is a bit more capable, and the 752 is much more capable, so the 739ER might win by that count, even if the A321 is otherwise better on shorter runs, and more comfortable.
