Delta's New Livery Is Out - Part II

Sun Apr 08, 2007 6:11 am

Hey, guys. I figured that there should be a second thread about Delta’s new livery seeing as the old one made it past 320 replies, and was starting to take forever to load.

In short, this is the new livery, as seen on a 1/50 scale model of a Boeing 767-300:

This is a rendition of the livery on the Boeing 737-800, created by member Concord977:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/concord977/Aircraft%20Drawings/DL737800_newcolors_07.jpg

On the Boeing 777-200, created by member MP:

And finally, this is a proposed change created by member KFLLCFII, which seems to be liked by the majority of the posters in the previous thread, myself included:

I think I like the proposed change better, because the widget is displayed upright, rather than tilted.

I definately like that rendition. i would like to see the widget back on the tail, but the way they want to do it is horrible. plus, the colors dont stand out too much on the tail IMO.

The "Tipped" Widget looks too "cool for school". What do we do now, tip the widget on all the pilot wings and ticket counters?

I'd like to see something other than blue on the engine cowls too...maybe keep the current red/blue/grey?

New livery = Swing and a miss.

The altered widget on Bryan's jet looks like a salvageable recovery though.

I still don't like it but I could learn to like it better if the widget is upright as suggested above.

Will the creator of the upright widget send this rendering to someone who cares in ATL?

I don't really like either that much, but the proposed rendition by KFLLCFII is unquestionably the better of the two. As someone suggested in the first thread, the new livery isn't really recognizable as Delta (except for enthusiasts) whereas KFLLCFII's rendition at least looks similar to the old Widget livery.

I'm still not inclined to believe that the "real" new livery was intentionally leaked on the internet a month in advance, for the reasons I mentioned in the first thread. Having said that, I like the fuselage, font, and new color scheme at this point. It's the tail that's the problem.

KFLLCFII's rendition does a much better job with the tail. Take that version, add the 3D widgets from the fuselage to the nacelles (inside and outside, please; they should be visible from the cabin), and maybe make the "DELTA" font a little bolder, and you might just have something. Actually, I'm inclined to think that if what was posted is even close to the final revision, it'll end up being more like what I described than the original model shown was.

DO NOT like the new livery at all. It looks bland and a lot like the new Aeromexico livery...except for the quasi-widget of course. I like the member-generated livery better as well. But I still like the Deltaflot livery more than either one. As far as I'm concerned, if you want a corporate rebranding start with what you are offering your passengers. Not trying to start a whole new topic here but for me it's a simple equation. Continental=Meals in Coach=Fuller planes=Profitable. I flew CO last month IAH-SJU and back and at least received a hot sandwich...and I was glad to have it. I know that the days of full frills on domestic flying are over. But if a small expense like a basic hot sandwich will help fill your planes...then so be it. Give them a hot sandwich! Stop looking for things to take away and give passengers a reason to fly you. Just because you have a large route network is not enough of a reason for a passenger to fly your airline. There are simply more domestic choices. And I have been a Delta Frequent Flyer for MANY years...and now I've found Continental...and I can still get my Delta miles (and don't get me started on Sky Saver vs. Sky Choice!). All I want is for Delta to step up to the plate and show some love for their customers. When I'm flying, it's always 5+ hours and a snack box doesn't cut it. I know that this may not be a popular post, but I'm puttin' it out there. And before the conversation starts, I do understand the cost structure of meals, etc. Sometimes you have to spend a little money to make more...and most airlines today DO NOT understand this concept.

Edit: I meant easter in ND is boring, not brian's modification  Wink

I really don't see that. I see a retro scheme.

Does anyone know which planes will get it first?

i hate the Deltaflot scheme, this looks like a slight improvement, however WAY too much while, maybe they should add some blue on the fuselage, make it a bit better.

This is our chance to let the airline execs know what they're customers want. If we can get enough people, maybe they'll listen.

Does anyone know if the company who designed United's new colors, the same company who came up with this? To me they look a bit simular. Blue bottom, white top, blue tail with your company logo chopped in half.

one word describes the new scheme: Boring! i like Graphic's modification, i'd go one step further and add a maroon cheatline, so it looks more like the orgininal livery, which, IMO was timeles, they never should have gotten rid of it. if Delta's going to spend millions repainting all their planes, they should at least come up with something completely striking,
Yes, I'd like to see airbus go under so Boeing can have their customers!

I'm not sure how much attention DL will give them if one of the people on the "Top 4" has his profile titled "Erectile Dysfunction 2007".  Silly

I agree with the comments about the livery being more professional and business-like. It grew on me after a few hours, and I've noticed that with other members, too.

It's just horrific, all the way around. Boring. Dark. Dead. (The widget looks almost as though it's plaid-patterned.) There have been some bad liveries of late, but this one is the worst.

I think the new scheme looks great. I like the widget upright, and Graphic, I like also adding the big widget up front on the fuselage. Reminds me of the old widget scheme having a big widget up front.

However, also having a widget on the engine cowling facing exterior is one too many widgets in my opinion. Turn that cowing widget to face inward to on-board passengers with a view of the cowling and they're in business.

All in all, I like it. Very classy, upscale and old school Delta. Atlanta, turn that widget upright on the tail please.

I like it, a lot. Clean, simple, DELTA stands out, the widget is back, nice blue belly with nice white clean body, blue engine covers and good tail. I like the tail with the complete widget best I think but could live with the partial widget, which represents flight I guess... i don't like the doctored one with widget up front, too harsh

Honestly, you should e-mail this to delta.
Adding a few new lines on the fuselage and the engine surely wouldn't be that much of an economical cost for delta would, at least as far as weight is concernerd! At the end of the day, Delta's new livery should and has to be something that stands out, and the flaw, is that it does not, which means it is indistinguishable from the other mediocre airlines out there.

The only airline it has really worked for is american airlines, though for obvious reasons; its always been the same, its shiny, its iconic, and instantly recognisable. Maybe it would not have been so bad for delta if they had kept there present livery for a while, I think its one of the best liveries out there of any airline, at least then people will become more familiar with it over time. Though this new one, I don't see it having a major effect.

That's absolutely gorgeous. I still think the widgets on the nacelles should be the straight upright version as opposed to the over-large "swept-back" version like on the tail, but you've blown away the design that was first posted as the "official" livery. I hope you find a way to get in touch with the right people at DL.

I still think that the classic blues and red should be used. The new colors look too much like some new US Airways/old Canadian sort of mix. Very dull and not inspiring IMHO.
