CRJ With 18.5" Seats?

Tue Apr 10, 2007 3:01 am

CO claims that the COex CRJs have 18.5" wide seats (except row 1) while their ERJs from both carriers have 17.3" seats?

http://www.continental.com/web/en-US...ght/aircraft/bombardierCRJ200.aspx

Is this common on CRJs? I've only flown CRJs a LONG time ago on ComAir and found the seats to be cramped. Do they use different seats?

According to seatguru.com, DL, NW, US, and UA have seats on their CRJ's ranging from 17.0 to 17.5 inches wide. If its not a typo, I wonder how CO is able to use these wider seats.

I believe AC do too- I flew Newark to Toronto yesterday on a CRJ200ER and it was very comfortable- MUCH more comfortable than the 767-300 I connected on Toronto-Heathrow!

I think COex and AC Jazz use some of the ex-FlyI CRJ200 aircraft, which were fitted with new seats that many found very comfortable...

If this is the case, I may have to rethink my CRJ v. ERJ preference.

I'll be flying the COex CRJ next month, as they have moved SRQ-IAH to the CRJ, so if I can get row 8 (exit), it'll be luxurious. 38" pitch and 18.5" seats. That's F on an MD-80!!! (well, without the F armrest) Since I'm tall, I need the aisle.

The Coex CRJ's are ex Indy (Independence Air) planes. Better cushions, better width etc. Only reason why..... Because Chautauqua knows they will break down on the runway and they want you to be comfortable during your 4 hour MX delay.

Good luck with that...Sh!taco CRJs from SRQ to IAH!! Not only is CHQ a crap product compared to BTA, the CRJ will inevitably be weight restricted on these flights. I wouldn't be surprised if these flights left with 46pax on a regular basis...off my soapbox.

But how? Is the isle really narrow? Where do they get the extra 4 inches from?

Really good question... CRJ aisles are only 16" wide which is already around 4" narrower than almost all other narrowbody jets.

Must we really turn this thread into an ExpressJet vs. Chautauqua debate? ExpressJet lost some of the CO flying, and now they're making a name for themselves as an independent carrier in underserved and niche markets across the nation (and a lot more intelligently than Indy Air did). Chautauqua gets some business from a new carrier and expands its fleet and employee base. Both airlines are happy, so why the hostility?

No hostility...just stating the obvious. CHQ is a crap product. Fly both a few times and you'll see. You can throw a fresh coat of paint on a pile of sh!t, but its still just a pile of sh!t. Just an observation. Its amazing some of the decisions that COA management has made since Bethune left. BTA and CHQ might be 'happy' now but we'll see in a year or so how happy COA is...and THAT is what really matters here.

I find the CRJ200 much more comfortable than the ERJ-145 Series. In my experience they have a lot less maintenance issues and a lot less weight restrictions than the ERJ-145. Flying from TYS to ORD American Eagle was weight restricted on a daily basis, while Pinnacle flying TYS-DTW/ TYS-MSP were very rarely weight restricted.
