BMI Are Down To Single A321?

Tue Apr 10, 2007 8:35 pm

I was at LHR twice during the Easter Bank Holiday, and notice that BMI flights to both Dublin and Belfast are now being flown by A320s rather than A321s. Both times i was at LHR i noticed the BMI A321 in the Star Livery namely G-MIDL was parked idle at the same remote stand at Terminal 1, as if it is only going to be used as a back up aircraft.

Maybe somebody can shed some light on the whereabouts of the other 3 A321s G-MIDC/MIDK and MIDM that BMI operated until recently.

I did read that Monarch were to get G-MIDK and G-MIDM but nothing about where G-MIDC would end up.

Also is the Star A321 G-MIDL due to leave the BMI fleet?, and what are the plans for the A320S and A321s that BMI will acquired as part of the BMED acquisition?

I flew with G-MIDM on 12th March (MME-LHR; BD333) and have since been out of the UK. As I posted elsewhere, a strange flight with about only 50 seats filled, including about 10 who were transfers due to a KL cancellation.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

G-MIDC was parked at EMA late last week, and was then opperating for Spotty-M out of BHX over the weekend.

bmi made a decision about two years ago that the Airbus 321 was not the right equipment for their operation, it was too big for a number of their routes considering it's weight, the number of cabin crew needed and the length of time needed for a turnaround compared to the other smaller members of the Airbus 320 family. bmi has replaced most of it's 321s with either Airbus 319s or 320s, so hasn't really scaled back it's fleet - the Boeings are now with bmibaby, whose fleet is going to be 21 aircraft this summer - and bmi regional now have the Embraers.

bmi will be keeping the entire BMED Airbus fleet which are specifically equipped to operate longer sectors as BMED currently does, and also will be taking BMED's 5 A321s they have on order to allow them to expand into more African, Middle Eastern and Central Asian markets.

I think one of BMI's A321 was a route from LHR-BEY. Can anyone confirm this?

Many thanks for all your replys and information, i didn,t realize that BMI had got rid of its remaining A321s already apart from G-MIDL, which will shortly leave the fleet from the info i have read on this forum.

BMI's aircraft are not doing any BMED routes yet, or vica versa. The aircraft in Beirut would have been BMED's GMEDL which has a very similar registration to GMIDL!!!
