Finally! PTVs In LH Economy (& New First Class)

Thu Apr 12, 2007 9:15 am

My previous post was deleted for copyright problems, so I figured I would repost.

We've known these were coming for a long time, but this is the first time I've seen the info released publicly.

http://www.atwonline.com/news/story.html?storyID=8476

- New PTVs in Economy starting this Fall.
- New First class starting Winter 2008 on Airbuses.
- Business Class refit to be completed in May.
- Looking for new provider for on-board internet.

The PTV system is pretty nice. I hope the details are released soon.

Looking forward to the new F class product. LH has a great F seat, but it is still a seat.  Smile

And I miss Connexion so I hope someone picks it up. I believe Panasonic said they were working on new kit that could use the existing dish and infrastructure.

ENDLICH!!!!

Given the size of those holes in the new economy seats, they have got to be huge screens.  hyper

About time....! Seems like an LH boss got lost and ended up in Y by accident, and saw that the back of his planes looks like some charter airline. (Sorry LH Lovers but no PTV's...!?)  cheeky

Oh rats... so now there's going to be even less space for my legs on LH longhaul, because I doubt they'll have a system without those awfully annoying boxes below the seats...  Yeah sure ... with the almost non-existant pitch that LH has in Y-class, this is going to make travelling with them even worse.

... unless, of course, they've managed to get rid of those damn boxes... or they'll improve their pitch, though I very much doubt the latter - we're talking about self-loading-cargo (Y-class pax) here anyhow...

well now we can rest easy that something like LH's (current) lack of PTVs has been resolved and now it's onto another issue say.........DC-9s  duck

PTVs have become less important for me now as I've grown up, but still, this is definitely a good move by LH.

What I don't really get from this article is if ALL long haul aircraft will get PTV's. I can understand that the 744's for example won't get them, as they don't have that long life left in the fleet (with the arrival of the a380's and later the 748's). The a330's and a346's on the other hand most likely do.

they can go "EK-style" ...  crowded .....actually, just flew cattle class on EK's B773 yesterday  bigthumbsup  biggrin .....
fortunately I had an exit row  biggrin ...but their seat pitch is still much better than most carriers, and I would rather take EK's narrower seats and more generous seat pitch over a wider seat and less seat pitch...

....maybe LH should go 9-across on their A340's and increase their seat pitch

LH did upgrade them with the new Business Class seat so we'll see. The 744's will leave the fleet before any of the Airbuses therefore I doubt that all of the 744's will be upgraded rather only the newer ones that were introduced between the mid 90s until the year 2000.

However what took LH so long to introduce PTV's in Y class?

They opted for a Windows/IE-based IFE system that caused nothing but trouble since its introduction with the new C Class  Smile They should be chosen some stable system  Smile

I definitely think they should. I recently had a flight with them to Manila on the A346. Legroom was some of the worst I have experienced on a major carrier. It seems like the nature notely the buttom edge of the new Recaro-seats makes it impossible for tall people like me to stretch the legs underneath the seat in front.

On the last leg of my return flight I had the pleasure of flying one of the old A300-600 from FRA -> CPH. Legroom was awesome! Wish LH could go back to those old seats in economy. It is so much more comfortable. Add PTV's + wifi of course!
Future flights: CPH-BOS; CPH-SVG; CPH-PVG-HKG-MNL-DVO; CPH-CDG; CPH-NRT; CPH-MIA; CPH-PVG

too bad! no more "WHY LUFTHANSA NO PTVs THREAD". With that shame on Iberia the only major european carrier that will not have Y even in their most modern fleet! shame on them also because in their magazines they talk about them having the most moder a/c. Well PTV's would make their a/c have such modern interiors like ther competitors !!!

No there is still

Why easyjet two doors on A319 wing?
Why IB not better service?
Why BA no A380?
Why 737NG no more eyebrows?
Petermax?
Why Ryanair such crap?
Why AF dirty planes?
Why EK so many orders?
What if A380 fiasco ?
Why AF A320 in MIA ?

LOL, I guess there are still other issues to cope with aren´t there? You know there is always some work to do...

- NW DC-9s
- AF dirty planes
- IB lousy service
- Come with a concrete answer to A. vs. B.
- When is BA getting an A380
- What is the best FA uniform.

I guess there are other missing most of the daily posted common threads.

However it is cool LH has come with the idea of bringing PTV´s, although I use for a short time on a long flight, I guess they keep most of the young passengers in their seats, and nervous flyers calm.

Lufthansa was concerned about the extra weight ptvs would bring, equipping complete economy class. At least that's what they told us.

Wow, I can't believe how long it took them to get this new business class on all their planes. I was lucky enough to fly them last year, and happily got it on both ways.

As for economy, it's really time to change it, and that's great news. I usually try to avoid LH for long haul, and would rather fly another airline with PTV! Happy I won't have to exclude them in the future  Wink

I could live without the PTV if I at least had a few inches between my knees and the seat in front, or an a/c vent. That's what made my flight tough when I flew LH.

At last the needed update for Y comes, but LH also realized their First Class was desperately in need of an upgrade behind their competitors. While the service may be great in First Class, the seating situation is way behind the times!

I think we may have a sneek peek at LH's new Y PTVs. According to this pax on the A380, LH's new PTVs were installed on the A380. We know that the interior of this A380 is Airbus' version and not LH's, but maybe this guy knows something that we don't. From what I know about LH's new PTVs in Y, this could be it. Looks pretty sharp.

Check around 2-minute mark on the video. It say's "Luftansa's neues (new) Inflight System."

Nice video! But about the Inflight System.....I'll believe it when I see it - on LH instead of on Airbus. I assume it was just a "personal comment" by the guy who filmed it, nothing official about that being LH's future-ptv. However it did seem nice with the touchscreens!

Thanks for sharing!  Cool

There is no need, as most flights are full anyway, so why invest a lot of money in IFE, if tyou don't generate extra revenue.
But I have to admit that I'm glad they install it now!

The Y-seats on the 346 already hold space for an PTV screen, so installing must be not too much work on those birds.
I don;t know how the 744's, 333's and 343's are prepared, but there might be a new order for Recaro in the pipeline  Smile
