What Are The Loads Like On FI's KEF - GLA Route?

Thu Apr 12, 2007 9:46 pm

Does anyone know what the general loads are on Icelandair's Reykjavik - Glasgow route?

Is the route served daily?

Any chance of them opening up a new route to Edinburgh? Perhaps when they receive their new B737-800's? Would be nice to see them at Edinburgh.

The CAA's provisional statistics for GLA-KEF in March show a total of 4186 passenger and appears to operate 4 weekly. This gives 36 flights, so an average load of 116 passengers a flight.

For comparison, MAN-KEF in March is 2218 passengers on a 2 weekly basis = 18 flights and a load of 122 per flight.

For schedule info it would be much faster to check yourself on either FI's website or any of the other airline schedule/booking sites (Amadeus.net probably the best for this purpose). Took about 10 seconds to determine that FI has 4 flights a week on this route currently. Looks like it increases to 5 a week during the summer.

No, because all an EDI-KEF service would do is dilute pasenger numbers carried through GLA. It would probably stimulate a bit of extra demand (including connections into EDI to and from North America), but not enough to justify both.

Icelandair isn't getting 737-800s.

They were ordered by its parent Icelandair Group/FL Group (Don´t know what they call themselves these days), and a number have already been deliviered, but are on long-term leases in China.

EDI-KEF could be one for Iceland Express in the future (maybe on a twice weekly summer basis) but I would agree with MainMAN that FI won't be interested in serving both Scottish cities in tandem. DUB might work better for FI as a new destination.

Icelandair Group and FL Group are now separate businesses. Not sure who owns the leasing business (think its called Icelease)
