Airport Flight Info Online - How Do They Know?

Fri Apr 13, 2007 2:09 am

All

As always I come to the forum with another little thing that I would love to know more about.

When you check on aiport websites for flight information (departures and arrivals) it tells you always the scheduled time of arrival or departure (which I guess is simple to know) but in the case of arrivals an estimated time which is sometimes before or after the scheduled time.

My question is - how does this system get this information.

Specific example - If I was checking EZE and saw an Iberia flight from MAD with a 10 minute late arrival time while plane is still say half way into its flight, how did that info get into EZE flight info.

As always a thousand thanks to you all

From the airlines, which is then inputted into the airport's FIDS either automatically or manually and linked with the website online.

I know that in Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 case, they wait for the airline to give them the info. Many times on their website they don't have the proper info on flights from the US but when you check on the airline's website the info is there. Technically, as soon as the plane is off the ground they could give the ETA to whoever requests it (airlines, airports, etc.)
