Malaga - Granada

Mon Apr 16, 2007 9:53 pm

hi everyone

i am looking to book a flight to Spain for june and to fly into Granada airport with FR it is about £80 cheaper than to fly into Malaga with EZY, TOM, LS, WW, FCA

so i was just wondering how far away Granada is from Malaga and if i would save money flying into Granada and then getting a taxi into Malaga or would it be cheaper flying into Malaga because dont have to pay for taxi

replies much appreciated thanks
Gareth.

Granada to Malaga, on a good day, is 135km, much more if you route down the coast.

I'd say the extra £80 to fly to AGP is £80 very well spent.

Don't ever bother it

As stated by Shamu, you'll probably being going down to the south, were most of the resorts are, so that'll be more that 135km to travel by taxi, and that will be more than 80 pounds cost.

Besides, Malaga's airport is much more interesting than Granada's one

cheers

We flew in april to Malaga and stayed in the resort of Nerja, we could manage a 1Hr 30 Min Drive and Nerja is 1hr from Malaga. I personally flew with BA from LGW £ 500 Return when it was £ 800 Return from STN with FR ?! Its crazy, I would suggest trying BA as they fly to both Big grin

Happy Flying

P.S BA Fly the 320 LGW - AGP :p

A good decision.

If it's your sort of thing though, a trip up to Granada is a nice day out, and the Alhambra is really quite a marvel.

I've also had some great skiing in the winter above in Sol Y Nieve...although last time I was there, the hotel next door burned down one night!!

Hope you enjoy Andalucia! I returned from AGP about 2 months ago and took in many of the fine sights on offer thanks to a hire car, including Seville, Cordoba, Ronda and the Costa del Sol (besides Torremolinos/Benalmadena/Fuengirola).

A drive up to Granada is highly recommended! Takes about 2 hours or so from Malaga and the Alhambra makes for a good day out.

Just a side note, XL is technically not a new airline because it is (in my eyes) a rebranding from Excel Airways and the fleet and route structure is largely unchanged but I stand to be corrected.

Agree 100 percent. And the view of the Alhambra, as dusk comes on, from the Mirador viewing spot in the Albayzin (old city) across the steep ravine from the Alhambra is almost magical. The walls of the Alhambra take on a rosy glow in the setting sun that is quite wonderful. And there are lovely neighborhood restaurants in the Albayzin serving authentic Andalusian cuisine (quite different from traditional Spanish cuisine) at very reasonable prices. The problem is getting from Malaga to Granada. There are no nonstop flights, the airfares are exorbitant, the train service is slow and inconvenient (includes a change of trains with a significant wait between trains at Bobadilla), and the price of auto rentals in high season can cause indigestion and/or high blood pressure. But if you find a way to do it within your budget, DO visit Granada for a day trip. But reserve your entry tickets to the Alhambra several days in advance (can be done by telephone). Or you stand a good chance of not getting in.

Not if you turn up over the Easter period to meet a queue of 700 in front of you!

AGP on the 29th June at 05:40

Also try not to turn up at the terminal too early because there's lots to see once you get through security but before it gets boring after 2 hrs waiting! ( Long Story Big grin )

Enjoy it I suggest going to Nerja and visiting the 'Balcony Of Europe'
