N911PJ Flying Wierd Patterns Around SGH

Tue Apr 17, 2007 12:21 am

Now my guess is that this is a training school out of SGH and they're probably doing IFR flight plans under the hood.

Does anyone else have information about who's plane this is, what flight school is running the operation, and what they may be working on? Are these types of patterns typical for another type of flight - possibly land surverying?

Such a pattern is also referred to as "mowing the lawn" and you'll see that on other aircraft doing aerial survey work...

Is there any reason why they do all the flights North/South as opposed to East/West? Just customary?

I wouldn't think there's any aviation reason why they couldn't go east-west versus north-south, and I'm guessing that's more related to the mapping end of their mission. Maybe a software requirement? Who knows...
