Situation With Chataqua, CoEx Etc.

Tue Apr 17, 2007 6:05 pm

Can someone explain to me what has gone on recently regarding Continental's shift of express operations to Chataqua from Continental Express/Express Jet Airlines?

I recall several years ago that CO sold the express subsidiary to operate independently as Express Jet airlines. However now it seems that Express Jet is running ops for other airlines while CO has had Chataqua take over their regional ops at IAH. What is the reason for the switch? Express Jet seemed to be doing very well for CO out of all three of their hubs.

express jet and CO couldn't come to agreement on a price for each departure.
CO feels express jet is too expensive and excercised their right to remove capacity. 60+ a/c

express jet is now leasoing those a/c at a highger cost from CO. Expressjet can now do what it wants with those a/c but can not fly into a CO hub.

CO replaced that capacity with Chataqua ERJ/CRJ , Commutair Dash 8 -200 and Colgan Q400

CO was hoping that express jet would return the a/c but they didn't. With not enough spare ERJ's out in the market hence the introduction of the CRJ.
