Photo Taken When Flying UK Domestic?

Tue Apr 17, 2007 8:46 pm

In the last 3 weeks I have made a couple of UK domestic flights while connecting onto a European flight, and in both cases on the return UK domestic flight I have had my photo taken at security.

When approaching security you have your boarding passes checked by a security officer, before you proceed to the xray machines. While flying LPL-ABZ and LGW-ABZ, at this point when I handed ove rmy pass, I was instructed to stand on a certian spot and face the camera. At this point a photograph was taken of me. In the first case I was travelling with a friend on the same route, and he did not have to be photographed. I did however notice a sign saying that anyone travelling to the Isle of Man, or the channel islands would be photographed, but I was travelling to Aberdeen.

Anyone know why I am being photographed every time I fly home, and no-one else seems to be? Is big brother watching me?

You are misreading the situation. BAA routinely photograph passengers as an extra security check. I first came across this at ABZ in January 2005. Not sure if the check is meant to be every passenger on every flight (not your experience obviously) or just a random sample which may be based on destination or point of origin.

Its always been the case for flights into Northern Ireland. They take a photo then when you get to another check point they scan the bar code and your photo comes up that was taken at the 1st control. Im not overly bothered as I have nothing to hide. Its just become normal practice. I presume they will do it for all UK Domestics in time.

You always have your photo taken on domestic flights, the other people around you will have been travelling internationally and would have to show their passports at the gate as a means of photo ID.

It doesn't seem to me to be the best security system in the world, but we've been doing it a while!
