Who Will Fly An A380 To MUC?

Fri Apr 20, 2007 9:24 am

Saw the pic of the A380 at MUC and wondered what routes to MUC are viable as an A380? LH rarely flies the 744 to MUC and TG probably has bigger fish to fry with their small 380 fleet.

To MUC.

It will be a long time until we see A380s regularly at MUC. LH will base all theirs at FRA (as with the 744, the 744 never flew a regular, scheduled flight out of MUC), TG is more than unlikely to upgrade and EK... well, just because EK will receive 45 A380s over the next years, doesn't mean that every single destination will get to see one. EK currently has two daily flights to MUC; the evening flight is always performed with their smallest equipment, the A332. The daytime flight is either a A343 or A332, but has recently been downgraded from a 772 which was used four times weekly.

So until the two existing flights won't be upgraded to a 772, 773, or 77W you should not consider the possibility of an EK A380 at MUC. Furthermore, MUC does not have slot problems - it would be easy to introduce a third daily flight, and Terminal 1 (where EK resides) did not receive special A380 gates AFAIK.

the one and only possible carrier in my eyes is LH which could perform some BKK, JFK, LAX flights out of MUC if at all..

Your words in LH's ears!  Smile Should LH put one on MUC - LAX or even better SFO, I will be one of the first to buy a ticket, finally a good reason to visit a friend in San Jose...  cloudnine

Wrong. LH did have MUC-LAX and MUC-SFO with 747s between 1999 and 2001.

There won't be any A380 flights into MUC for the time being, but some airlines might be sending it here later on. TG is one candidate for example. However, at least in Europe, MUC was the first airport to be certified for A380 operation (possibly owing to the fact that no runway/taxiway reconfigurations were needed).

One A380 was allocated to operate the morning MUC flight however this has been switched over to Beijing (PVG).

In Germany Emirates will operate the one of the FRA flights with an A380.

Regarding EK @ MUC -- The morning flight switches to a B772/B773 from 1 Feb 2008.
