Average Age Of A New Hire

Mon Jul 31, 2000 3:30 pm

On a recent trip, I was speaking to the flight engineer of a DC-10 for NWA. She told me that the average age of a new hire at NWA is 38 years old. I was a little surprised to hear this. I figured the average age for a new hire would be younger. What are some of the average new hire ages for other airlines, both regional and the majors? Thank you.

That's a load of crap. The average age of new hire at a major is no older than 28 at best.

Regioanl new hires average about 23/24.

I'd have to agree with JETPILOT. 28 to 30 is about average for majors and 23 is average for a regional.

I can tell you that a few years back (and I don't know if it still holds true today) United's average new hire was 34. In a recent new hire class at Chautuaqua Airlines, the ages ranged from 21 to 45. I'd say the average in that class was 27 maybe.
