Question About AAs A300

Sat Apr 21, 2007 3:58 pm

I don't know, whether this has been discussed before, but I always wondered, why in the older days, the American A300s always had an all grey paint scheme, instead of the typical bare metal scheme. I noticed that since the mid 90s or so, the A300s finally got an all metal scheme except for the tail fin too. Was there a special reason, why they were painted grey initially?

I can see why they changed it to the bare metal livery...

That grey paint scheme is painful to look at!!  crazy
I'll do my own airline. With Blackjack. And hookers. In fact, forget the airline.

I agree! But they had it like that - and just on their Airbusses - for years!

It all has to do with insurance.

Airbus would not certify the Alclad exterior of the A300 without paint on it for several years... once they understood that it would be just fine polished, and not ruin anything, they agreed to allow it.

All done.
