Tue Apr 24, 2007 3:27 am

Hey guys and girls,

Im looking for a part time job at london luton airport. Preferably as a ramp rat or something like that. I've looked on the london luton website but cant find any info. Anyone around there know how I can go about getting one? or atleast look at the vacancies to see if theres anything that "tickles my fancy"?

Try searching for jobs on airline's websites that serve the airport.

Cheers,

Given the age you state in your profile you are probably too young for an airline job. If airlines in the UK are anything like in the US you need to be 18 and a high school grad at a minimum to get in. Probably the best you can do at a major airport is work in on of the shops... but then you don't need to be working at the airport to flip burgers.

You'll need to check out the labor laws for somebody your age. Odds are you are probably too young to be employed in most places w/o restrictions. Once you turn 16 prospects will open up a bit.

I don't think there is any airline or ground handling agent in the UK that employs people under the age of 18. However you may have luck with retail companies that operate within the airport. For example, foreign exchange companies like Travelex employ 16 year olds on part-time shifts at LHR. Similarly WHSmith at LHR takes on 16 year olds. I'm sure the same applies at LTN.

For Travelex, have a look here
For WHSmith, have a look here

As stated above, I would say that it's a certainty that no handling companies will employ a minor. If you are interested in working as a ramp agent, the best thing to do is hurry up and get your drivers license as rampin' involves an awful lot of driving and holding a full license is a pre-requisite.

Many you could work as a CSA?

Other then that, working at the airport is a bit of a hassle if you're just going to do a regular job like working in W H Smith.
i'm so excited i wish i could wet my pants!

Most airlines and ground handling agents have a minimum age of 18.

A hassle? How come? Most of these 'regular jobs' are better paid than the ones on the High St.
