Air Canada Rapidair Flight

Wed Apr 25, 2007 5:02 am

I saw regularly the expression ''rapidair flight'' on this forum and on Air Canada web site, but I don't know what does it mean? Anybody here has the answer?

Cheers

Rapidair flights are the Toronto-Ottawa/Montreal shuttle flights that go out full and fly between the cities constantly all day long. Rapidair is the marketing name for Air Canada's hourly service.

IIRC, they also fly YYC-YEG, YYC-YVR, YEG-YYC, and YEG-YVR. Since they don't publish timetables anymore, I'd almost forgotton about it. I can't remember what CP's hourly service was called, though.

While Air Canada does fly those routes, they aren't technically Rapidair flights.

HAHA yea, Ill admit it we westerners despise Toronto... Some like Montreal... and Most are indifferent towards Ottawa.. but Toronto can really heat things up around here... ESPECIALLY when it comes to AC.... but hey thats the HUB and Spoke method... and we do get some traffic (but our European flights are hard to come by on AC)

Pretty much every aircraft in the fleet is used in rapidair service, I've seen CRJ100/200/705, EMB175/190, Airbus 319/320/321/333/343 and 77W/767-300s all be used on the rapidair triangle.

If AC flies it, it either does or has done Rapidair.

Right now the only fleet types NOT doing scheduled Rapidair are the 345/343. E75, E90, 319, 320, 321, 333, 762, 763, 77W currently all fly Rapidair for Mainline, along with CRJ and CRA for Jazz.

It's also a good way to dispatch aircrafts (for technicals issues or long haul flights) without having an empty airplane...

I can't remember what CP's hourly service was called, though.

CP/PW offered services in the YYC/YEG/YVR triangle with B737-200 aircraft and was ironically named
"Airbus".
You can't get there from here.

BTW CP also offered an all business product on some of the major routes (i.e. YVR-YYZ, YYC-YYZ) utilizing B737-300's in a 3 x 3 config. with middle seat that folded down into a table. This service was called "Attache".

722-L10 smallest/biggest threeholer at AC...

I'd like to compare flights per day between YYC-YEG and YYC-YVR to YYZ-YOW

YYC-YEG and YVR is pretty much hourly, wonder why they're not called Rapidair?

CP had another all-business product limited to the YYZ-YUL route called "Company Jet". It preceded "Attache" but was very similar and used 737-200s. It didn't last long, maybe 6 months. Even on YYZ-YUL, the market for an all-business product just wasn't big enough.

They may not be Rapidair flights now, but in an old timetable that I have (1998 or 1999) the YYC-YEG, YYC-YVR, and YEG-YVR flights are labelled as Rapidair as well.

Perhaps that's chaged now, but AC used to have two Rapidair triangles YYZ-YOW-YUL and YYC-YEG-YVR.

... oh yeah, and everyone knows that the center of the universe is Winnipeg!!!!

Does calling flights "Rapidair" make them more prestigious in some way? Was it Shakespeare who said "What's in a name"?

That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time time. Ontario gets ripped off for billions every year by the Feds. Also YYZ pays 50% of the rent paid by federally owned airports in Canada.
