Boeing Announce Sale Of 6 X 777Fs

Fri Apr 27, 2007 12:07 am

Just released from Boeing

SEATTLE, April 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA) and Oak Hill Capital Partners, a leading private equity firm, today announced an order for six Boeing 777 Freighters. The order is valued at about $1.4 billion, at list prices.

The six-airplane order brings Boeing's total for the twin-engine freighter to 71 airplanes from 10 customers since its launch in May 2005. Oak Hill will be purchasing these planes through a new aircraft leasing platform that it is establishing in connection with the purchase.

This is a new order and not an undisclosed order. At 71 frames the 777F has outsold the MD-11F as a new build freighter.

Does this 10 customers listed exclude AC who cancelled their 2 777Fs yesterday?

Could this order be for 5X? Or would they order the 748F?

One heck of a week for Boeing. I can't wait to see the final April numbers...and they said that 2007 would be down for orders as compared to '05 and '06. Come to think of it, they said that about '06 too!

Sweet order for both organizations. I wonder how many more 777F are needed as 747-100/200/300/400F retire or are put to the desert due to costs of mx, fuel etc.....

Well...

Air France 5 23-May-2005
Avion Aircraft Trading 4 07-Sep-2005
Air Canada 2 10-Nov-2005
Emirates 8 21-Nov-2005
Avion Aircraft Trading 4 15-Dec-2005
FedEx 15 07-Nov-2006
GE Capital Corporation 8 15-Nov-2006
Guggenheim Aviation Partners 3 30-Nov-2006
Qatar Airways 2 13-Dec-2006
Korean Air 5 28-Dec-2006
Unidentified Customer 6 28-Feb-2007
Oak Hill Capital Partners 6 26-Apr-2007

Subtotal: 68 orders, 11 named customers + unidentified customer(s).

Subtract 2 from Air Canada...

66 Firm orders, 10 named customers + unidentified customer(s). Not sure where the other 5 orders came from.

9 known customers with 60 aircraft: AF (5), Avion Group (8), EK (8), FX (15), GECAS (8), Guggenheim (3), KE (5), QR (2), and Oak Hill (6).

2 unidentified customers with 5 and 6 aircraft.

If AC has been excluded, then it means one of the unidentified customers is a repeated customer.

if AC has not been excluded, then it means both of the unidentified customers are repeated customers. The press release says 71 airplanes. So, I'm pretty certain AC has been excluded. It's probably safe to assume one of the unidentified customers is an existing 77F customer.

It was announced two weeks ago. The list you have does not include April orders.

Well if you would be so kind as to post who and when, seeing as no such order was located among the recent Boeing press releases...

Boeing doesn't put out press releases for orders by unidentified customers. Here's the thread on the April 10 order update by Boeing:

The 5 UFOs 777Fs were recorded in the same week as the 30 787 UFOs. If QR is indeed the 787 customer, it is possible that those 5 777F UFOs are for also for QR and were ordered at the same time as the 787s. That theory would fit the 10 customers and 71 frames.

Thank you.

If these five April UFOs are not for QR, then I wonder if LAN was also the customer for the earlier six UFOs. Otherwise we should have 11 customers not 10. Or maybe the press release has the wrong numbers.

[EDIT: I made a mistake in my calculations (twice) I edited this post rather than make a new post]

Actually, that milestone was passed on February 28th, when Boeing signed the order for x6 UFO's. . .

God I hope so! That would be an amazing looking bird (and Cargo360 is a part of Oak Hill. . . )!

Indeed it does.

It would indeed. It is a point that I had not considered before, and one that makes a lot of sense. Since we know:

FedEx - 15
Avion - 8
Emirates - 8
GECAS - 8
Oak Hill - 6
Unidentified - 6 (a new 777F customer)
Air France - 5
Korean Air - 5
Guggenheim - 3
Qatar Airways - 2

Thus, to match 10 customers at 71 orders, the April UFO of 5 must be from an existing customer. At this point, QR would be a very good guess indeed.

Quoting Flyfirst (Reply 12):

LAN has either not ordered yet, or they are leasing their aircraft from either GECAS, or now Oak Hill. . .

Unidentified - 6 (a new 777F customer)

China Southern announced an order of 6 B777F last year. Might be them, as they are a new customer as well.

Out of interest.... when is the first 777F being built?? I guess there aint much certification needed for it as its basically a 772LR without seats and windows and a massive door in the side!!

The first few long lead parts are in production right now, roll-out will probably take place in the fourth quarter this year, or early next year.

Quoting Albird87 (Reply 18):

Well, the are some more structural differences between the pax 772LR and the 777F than the seats, windows and the cargo door, parts of the frame must be strengthened, like the cabin floor, and a wall has to be placed in front of the main cargo deck.

Quoting Albird87 (Reply 19):

I'm 99% certain when I say no, Boeing will at least not produce such an aircraft.
Why? A 773F would carry less payload, and its higher cargo volume would mean that it could only carry a payload with a lower density than the payload the 772F can carry, and it would also burn more fuel per ton payload because of its higher structural weight.
The 773F would be less ideal as a freighter compared with the 77F, just as the A346 would make a poor freighter, you have to increase the max payload limit if you increase the cargo volume. Payloadcapabilities, giving the freighter a respectable payload density (9-10 lb/cuft,) is more important than the volume itself.
