Fri Apr 27, 2007 2:01 pm

According to local news report and some inside source, the newly deliver ex-ANA 744's will join O8's fleet with FIRST CLASS with service to YVR!!!

According to local paper (Ming Pao), O8's J class average loading is 65% and Y average loading @ 98%!!!

Oasis CEO also said, O8's fleet will grow to 15 by 2009, and 2009 will be the year that O8 to be listed on the stock exchange.

Last news for OAK a.netter, an exciting news for u guys, OAK might start on schedule!!!! June-July, 2007!!!

Yes they are making money, but they cannot be making enough money to cover costs

It costs about HKD$2000 for each seat they have (one way) to LGW, they are selling (return) tickets for HKD$1000, they are selling (return) J class at HKD $4500.

O8 does not have some magic wand to reduce airways, landing, fuel, and crew costs, the costs to run a 744 over that route is well know by operators in Europe and Asia.

The last I heard about OAK service was when Oasis officials were in OAK about 2 weeks ago and were interviewed on the local TV station and they said that OAK service might start in the fall of this year. (I believe fall technically goes until Dec 20th.) The Oasis website seems to indicate that they won't have the planes for this expansion until 1st Qtr 2008. What makes you think service may start earlier? It would be great if it did.

Interesting to hear. Those are some pretty good LF figures, if they're true.

A lot of the O8 crew are ex CX, they still go to the pub, and talk about the same sort of issues.

The costs to operate a 744 over that route is very well understood, many airlines have 10-20 years of experience on the cost of running a 747 over that route (BA, QF, CX), unless they are not paying their bills, they cannot be making a profit with ticket prices at their current levels.

I also disagree with the stated average Y class load factor, I have spoken to people who have said they travelled O8 Y class and they flight was "almost empty", then to have an average load factor of 98% is not believable, if you had said 60-80 % for an average, with occasional spikes to 100% I would believe you.

Oasis filed for an exemption to operate HKG-OAK in February. In their application (which btw was granted very quickly)they proposed June 1 as the date of inaugural service. I assume a later date is within the realms of possibility, in case they are still short of lift at that time. However, I don't believe, it will be as much as six months. My hunch is anywhere between June and September.

Rumours of 98% load factor is absolute nonsense, unless it considers a very specific period.

Oasis transported 14733 passengers to/from LGW in March 2007 (source : UK CAA provisional statistics), which gives them a load factor of 66.2% using a 359-seater aircraft.

Respectable and money making for a full fare carrier. Nowhere near sustainable for an LCC. Good luck to them.

Seats can now be booked on the Vancouver flights, which start on June 28. The lowest fare for a round-trip in Economy class is 5200 Hong Kong dollars including taxes. Oasis is also offering a buy 1, get 2 deal for business class on this route. Flights will be operated 6x weekly.

Flew Oasis last night from HKG to LGW. Flight was 100% full as far as I could tell. Most of the pax seemed to be European backpacker types flying back home though. I was surprised to see how little most people spent on the inflight sales (average £5/pax at most). I cannot imagine that being a particularly good revenue stream for them.

Oasis calls itself an LCC but seems to be positioning its self as a Virgin Atlantic. Virgin in 1984 was a "backpacker airline" but its Upper Class really took over its image. I would love to see them in the USA.

Will Oasis start service to ORD this year, as planned?

ORD-HKG needs competition... UA has a monopoly on ORD-HKG, and it's a huge moneymaker for UA. But, even if O8 doesn't start ORD-HKG this year, I see CX or AA (more likely the latter) starting it soon.
