Aeroflot TLV

Sun Apr 29, 2007 10:11 am

THIS IS MY FIRST POST ON AIRLINERS.NET

I was wondering why Aeroflot does not fly to Tel Aviv themselves? I thought this is a very major route for LY and Transaero? There are flights coming into Tel Aviv from all former Soviet Union cities and they are usually packed.

In addition to El Al, Rossiya and Transaero providing up to 6 daily flights, LY captures traffic that would normally connect via Moscow by having non-stops (in addition to Moscow and St.Petersburg) to Bucharest, Chişinău, Dnipropetrovsk, Kiev, Minsk, Odessa, Simferopol, Sofia with Vilnius starting June 13.

So probably Aeroflot feels there is enough capacity and service Tel Aviv via codeshare or they are short on airplanes.

I believe there was an agreement with Russian Government where SU can't serve TLV, only UN can for some reason. Someone more knowledgeable can give details.

How bizarre! Aeroflot serve BEY regularly with A319/A320/T154 aircraft during the week- I would have thought TLV would have got a connection, but if there are upwards of 6 daily services by other airlines, there probably isn't sufficient capacity for any more.

MD90, I highly doubt Bucharest would connect through SVO to go to TLV. There are only 2 flights per week between OTP and SVO.

Does SU hold rights for this route?

Moscow - Tel Aviv is a very big route in terms of traffic

Transaero flies 747/767

and I believe EL AL flies 3 flights daily with 737-800 if I am not mistaken.

There are over 2 million Russian Speaking people in Israel. I just dont understand why Aeroflot would like to focus more on the arabic speaking countries instead of focusing on there own speaking people.

Both LY and UN fly to DME. I don't think any airline regularly flies from TLV to SVO, which is SU's hub. If SU were to fly to TLV, Skyteam, far and away, would be the alliance with the strongest presence in Israel. In that event, I think that AM and NW would be the only Skyteam members that would not fly to TLV. However, KE only offers cargo service to TLV at this time.

Check out the Ben-Gurion Airport website under the airline section. Aside from Aeroflot, virtually every other obscure airline from the former Soviet Republics serve Tel Aviv. Anytime I've landed at TLV, there is an armada of TU154's from airlines which most of us have never seen, nor heard of.

IIRC, there is indeed some bizarre reason that SU does not (or cannot) serve TLV.

It's not that high.

At the end of 2006, there were just under 1,000,000 people from the former USSR living in Israel, so that figure is way too high.
