Aeroflot At St Petersburg

Mon Apr 30, 2007 12:36 am

According to CH Aviation, Aeroflot are starting:

LED-SXF - 2xWeek
LED-HAM - 2xWeek
LED-MUC - 3xWeek

Flights start in June with A319's

However, only a couple of years ago, Aeroflot passed their remaining LED-Europe flights to Pulkovo. So what prompted them to restart LED-europe flights again?

Maybe they are trying to expand to St. Petersburg as I would assume this is a very large market. Or The Russian Government is gearing up to merge Rossiya (Pulkovo) with Aeroflot. To make one huge carrier!

They seem to be doing this alot lately! with all kinds of industry

Probably because LED is one of the 30 largest cities in the world and ample demand exists for multiple carriers flying LED-Germany.

How large exactly is the greater St. Petersburg metro area? I'm sure the catchment area is quite large, too.

LED is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe (if not the most beautiful)...there's not only a lot of business happening but it also generates a lot of inbound tourism. Together with all the VFR (visiting friends and relatives) traffic this gives a perfect mix on many routes. Of course Aeroflot as the leading Russian carrier cannot wait and see but needs to offer- otherwise competition will do.

St. Petersburg is home to the Largest Port in Russia. Something like half of all imports go through St. Petersburg. and business in Russia is booming. So alot of compaines send people to conduct day to day import business that is there.

2002 census had it as 4.6 million, but is now apparently 4.8 million.
