AA Needs A New Website

Mon Apr 30, 2007 8:25 pm

Hi

I just visited the AA website and was surprised to see that there had been no effort to update it! In my opinion it looks dated and tacky, if AA wants to portray itself as a modern carrier that knows why people fly it needs a new website!

What do you think?

I think you need a new pair of glasses!

There's nothing wrong with their website.

It's tired and dated, look at other carriers websites; UA, DL, CO, WN. They all look fresh and modern, the AA website is suited to the 90's.

Nothing wrong with the website!!!
It does the job and everynow and again they add a little something new (like you can now access it in spanish and also the new advantage miles usage for flights on the main page. Also the way advanatage flights can be looked up now has changed and is quite a good thing as you can then see where they have the cheap mile seats available now a whole lot easier and also be able to jump between the classes without having to restart your search)

from a functional point of view, I agree. But visually, it's the pits. It isn't as clean or as sharp as it could be.

I vote for functionality. I have always had postive experiences with the AA website.

I'm not saying its not functional, I'm saying its could do with a visual upgrade. UA's is perfectly functional and attractive.

That's funny. AA.com is consistently voted the best or one of the best airline websites out there. People like functionality and with AA.com, that's what they've got. BTW, the current AA.com design is not that old.

Here's an interesting tidbit for ya: AA.com gets, on average, 1.2 million unique hits per day.

The only thing I would do to perhaps update the AA website is to round off the edges on the boxes like most other websites have done. For eg. on the main page, the 'GO' tabs in red are admittedly very dated. However, I love naviagting the AA website and prefer using it to CO's or DL's. I have never had cause to use UA's or NW's but I really like navigating the AA website- it's 'functional' to coin a phrase used by many already.

By rounding out the boxes, changing the fonts and maybe updating the colours a wee bit could go a long way in presentation!!

The fact that the website is optimised for a 800x600 resolution doesn't help either. People these days have screens with 1280x1024+ resolutions. We have the screen real estate so fill it up!

The site is fine with me! If they start adding too much flash and glitz, they may drive away business from those who are not so computerrnliterate and don't update their plug insrnetc. The vast majority of people out there don't know what the heckrnthey're doing with their computers therefore, the simpler the better ifrnyou're driving business through your web site!

I would like to see better photos of their fleet though!

I agree that there is a bit to much to their website. Lot of links, information.
I really do like AA's Flexible Reservations! The only airline website that does it! Can find great airfares.

Just my two cents..

I've been using AA.com maybe a few months after the website was announced....I love the website...very easy to use and everything is one to two clicks away.....might not have the "looks" of some fancy website, but it gets the job done very efficiently..and that's what I like about it...

...in fact, I've even booked an AF LHR-CDG-DXB fare cheaper on AA.com than on airfrance.com (and the price wasn't even remotely close).... biggrin

It looks fine to me! It's easy to use and it works, unlike other airlines. It seems on other airlines I see an error come up that says "cannot find fare information at this time."

"What?"

I think AA has done a good job with their site. For the most part it's very easy to get around, and they don't have dead links everywhere.

For those of us actually booking flights, I'd rather have AA adding even more functionality to their site than waste time making it "pretty" for fashionistas.

Having extensively used all of the above websites all I can say is that AA is the best in terms of functionality and it doesn't look too bad either. The whole AA image is a little dated if you ask me but the websire works and that's all I care about.

Personally, the website works just fine, maybe just add some watermark motifs to the background... no need to fix something that isnt broke. Now if only they would finally get to UPDATE the fleet's paint scheme... but thats a different thread  Smile

I find AA's web site very convenient. I have to travel PNS-ORD, then I am moving a friend to NYC and fly LGA-PNS. I can book this on AA's site, not US's or UA's. UA's is bad, though maybe up-to-date looking, I cannot book a flight out of PNS on their site. I understand it's a codeshare with US and I can get UA miles; I still find it inconvenient that I cannot book PNS flights on UA's site.

Considering the problems I have had with a "flash-N-trash" website - all glitz and no substance - I will stick with what works:

http://www.airliners.net/discussions...eneral_aviation/read.main/3373622/

What it all comes down to is this - aa.com might look dated, but as long as it functions and is logical and well organized, that's all that matters.

By far the best functioning website out there. Easy to navigate with all the quick relevant answers one needs at its fingertips. I find with delta and usair its just to many "features" that makes it confusing when you want to, say, check the status of a flight.

To me it all comes down to KISS.......KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!

I don't agree. AA's website is, imo, much like DFW. If you're not familiar with it you may be intimidated. But by using it you become familiar with it, and you are no longer intimidated.

I use it quite often, and I don't have any problem with it.
