903 IAD-DEN Biz Class - Meal Service?

Wed May 02, 2007 7:00 am

I tried going on united's website to see what is the meal service on that flight on biz class, and i couldn't find an answer. the reason is that i am flying that flight, and i can't eat pork. i don't usually request a special meal, unless i know there is a choce of pork on that flight. for instance 902 from DEN to IAD, has two choices of pork products : Chef salad and the turkey wrap which contains "Salami", so i always request either a kosher or a muslim meal. i never flown on 903 so i don't know what are the choices.

any help would be great

903 IAD-DEN is a dinner flight. Dinner flights usually have more than a salad or wrap offering. Typically you should get the choice of a chicken entree or a pasta. Pork products can be found on breakfast, lunch and snack services, but I haven't seen them recently on the dinner flights in domestic first/business class.

my suggestion is to play it safe and either bring your own food or request the special meal. I'd rather eat than starve for the flight. But it's totally your call.

That is the flight that I always fly between IAD - DEN just about every week. What has been offered the past several weeks in Biz class has been an open faced Turkey sandwich, or a pasta shells dish. Neither of these contain any kind of pork from what I can tell. I prefer the open faced turkey sandwich personally.  Smile I know you had a pretty reliable answer already, but I wanted to confirm it from multiple experiences on that flight.

So that's what it was! I flew 903 (N774UA, no less) this past Sunday in Y+ and the aroma from J was quite nice. Of course, just the ripoff box (no I didn't buy it) and pretzles for those of us in back. BTW...how do you get one of the Y+ seats that has the nice footrest?

I wouldn't. There is always a chance that they will end up catering you that wrap and salad mix, in which case you will be SOL. Request the special meal. Kosher, Moslem, Low Fat, Vegetarian, etc will not have pork.

Y+ does not have footrests. What you see is the housing for the traytable and videoscreen. The front row has the cabin divider in front of it, so the tray table and video screens are housed in the armrest. Incidentially, these seats are a little bit narrower and don't have armrests that "raise"

Actually, United flies two configurations of 3-class 777-200s, one of which has 6 seats in Y+ that are designated as crew rest seats (17-20 H-J). These seats have a bit more recline, a bit more seat pitch, footrests, tray tables in armrests, and stowable video screen. The only drawback is that armrests are not movable. These seats are blocked off for international flights, but they are available for seating on domestic flights.

This configuration is the scheduled equipment in use for UA903, although switches to the other config without crew rest seats are common.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those. I guess if you have any status with UA's Mileage plus you could probably call the reservation number and request it.

Thanks...actually, it wasn't just H-J seats in rows 17-20, but the whole row. If you take a look at my bottom three of the five photos above, you'll see a second silver button in seats C+D for row 17. It was that way across the entire row.

Also found it odd that this was just a 777A vs. a 777ER, even though it was configured for international runs. Does anybody know the number breakdown as far as how many of the 777As are config'd international and how many (reg #s?) are config'd domestic?

this makes me wonder. why isnt united's E+ seats on international the same as those crew rest seats? compared to british airways, and other airlines that offers the premium economy product, United can improve a lot on those seats on international. at least increase the pitch and add leg rests

United doesn't charge more for those economy plus seats like other airlines do for premium economy. United gives those seats away for free to star alliance elites or to people on full fare or almost full fare economy. Yes you can pay a yearly fee to get them, but it is not like BA, VS, NZ or the others that market premium economy as a different product. Since UA doesn't really charge more for those seats, they can't afford to make them too nice since that will lower the seat count on the plane too much.

If UA did offer seats like the crew rest seats in a premium economy, then they probably would sell them for a premium.
