Wed May 02, 2007 12:23 pm

I got a call from a friend and she said they had to hold for 40 minutes to get into PHL. I heard a rumor that it was an accident, anyone have info?

Far, far more likely that it was weather related. Some pretty big storms working their way through that area at the moment. Where did you hear this "rumor" from?

I'd have to agree its probably the weather...up here about 50 miles north of the city its rocking and rolling pretty good outside. I tried to check into it and couldn't find anything about an accident in philly.

If it was an accident it wasn't major because it'd be all over the news. Most likely weather, less likely some sort of ground delay because its PHL and they don't need a reason.

Rumor came from some deadheading crew, something about a citation off a runway.

It was an incident. A citation came in hot to runway 35 and ran off the end of the runway. I was working and some of my pilots who were flying that night say the citation was high, and then tried to drop it down hard on the runway, and then touched down somewhere after Golf. No one was hurt, and the rescue people were there quickly. Airport was reopened pretty quickly, but at a 36 AAR as 35 became unavailable obviously after the incident.

That being said, it was a bad weather night at PHL as well, so any flights that departed over Pottstown and Ditch had very long takeoff delays for weather. Not a fun night to fly out of PHL.

The accident was letting the airspace, in that part of the country, get too big and busy.
Good Luck to all Skyway Pilots! It's been great working with you!
