American has just ordered an additional 6 B777-200IGW's and 3 B737-800's to be delivered in 2001/2002, I guess at the same time the 20 757's ordered recently will be delivered. The fleet of 777's and 737-800's will be 43 and 108 respectively. This probably means that American is planning to retire the last 727's sooner than what was planned, they may retire their last 727 already in late 2001. I though American would still operate the 727 until 2004 but a 767 captain told me a few months ago that the 727's would be gone end of 2001. The DC-10's will be gone end of this year.
I'd better fly on a 727, if possible, before it's too late.
