Libya To Spend $1.2 Bln On Airlines Overhaul

Sat May 05, 2007 2:18 am

Pls refer to URL:

http://yahoo.reuters.com/news/articl...03_L04305720&type=comktNews&rpc=44

Obviously, the statement of a total budged assigned of $ 1.19 B, between other for purchase of aircrafts
from AIRBUS and Boeing, seems contradictory with the value of $ 1.8 B assigned to the AB order alone.
By an indirect reference otherwhere, I infer that the intention for now is to buy A320 (possibly 12?) and B787 (possibly 773 and a few 778), but this is only a rumor!

"The 1,500 million dinars would be spent in modernising the fleets of the Libyan Airline and Ifriquiya Airline and upgrade the management and the services the two companies provide," it added."

Ifriquiya? I quess they mean Afriqiyah. But Afriqiyah already placed and confirmed an order with Airbus IIRC.

Hi,

It'd be nice to see Libyan Arab Airlines get a makeover. Maybe now they can legitimately compete as an international player and really take on the role as country flag carrier that it has. I know they have Airbus 320s already so getting more would make sense. Interesting to see their choice of widebodies though. Anyway, good news!  Smile

Cheers,
Imad
