Air Canada Chop Osaka Frequency, Adds More NRT

Sat May 05, 2007 3:12 am

Air Canada doing some reshuffling for Japan's flight in 2007/08 winter.

As of 04MAY07:

4 weekly 777-300ER Toronto - Tokyo
10 weekly 767-300ER Vancouver - Tokyo
4 weekly 767-300ER Vancouver - Osaka

So AC is taking 3 weekly flight from Osaka and move it to Tokyo.

The additional 3 flights will be AC005/006

Where would they get slots to increase Tokyo service? I thought NRT was the most slot constrained airport in the world.

7 YYZ and 7 YVR = 14 weekly
4 YYZ and 10 YVR = 14 weekly

No slot increment

What is going on with KIX? Over the past year the number of flights there has been reduced significantly by many airlines.

Only applicable for long-haul flights.
Number of regional flights, in particular China, and cargo flights are booming.

Why a miserable 767 from Vancouver to Osaka and Tokyo, that's almost an insult to the Japanesse market. A 767 has its place on the Atlantic but to Tokyo is unheard of, I know AC and Canadian have done it to Nagoya but that is the third Japanesse airport not the first, NRT. A340 where are you ?

I'm confused since you refer to 2007/08 winter but then show schedules for summer 2007. Also, AC's current schedule in their website (looking at mid-July) shows a daily 777-300ER YVR-NRT this summer. Are you saying that they've downgraded the 777 on the daily YVR-NRT-YVR AC003/004 to a 767-300ER and added 3 additional 767 flights? What is your source for these changes?

It's sad to see AC cutting frequency at KIX...not to mention the YYZ-Japan flights. Does AC not serve NGO anymore? If not, when did they stop serving it? I thought with the new airport, Japan's third most important metro region would be attractive to international airlines.

Those are the 2007/08 Winter Schedule based on the schedule update/upload as of 04MAY07 on the GDS system.

It would appear that this may indeed be the case...with the 77W being reassigned to YYC-LHR.

No, you can't say most slot constrained. London Heathrow and Tokyo Narita are BOTH sold out of slots, and are thus both the "most slot constrained airports in the world."

New airlines even today come to LHR and NRT. All they do is buy slots from people who are selling them.
