MEA To Montreal?

Mon May 07, 2007 4:22 am

Just heard from Mr. Hout that MEA will be starting BEY-Montreal in the summer. I am not sure if I heard correctly, but can anyone confirm?

If it's true, this calls for a celebration! Let's pop open a champagne bottle! This route is LONG, LONG overdue.

I doubt it even though haven't seen an interview or anything related. This would be major, definitely not this year.

No way is it happening now...the fleet is stretched out thin over the summer and they can't send a 332 over to YUL. Plus for security reasons I don't think it would happen now.

No way that could possibly happen.... the reason why Egyptair and Royal Jordanian fly to YUL is to feed BEY.

The earliest such a flight could start is in late 2008 or 2009 when MEA starts receiving its new A330s.

MEA does not coordinate its operations with Egyptair or Royal Jordanian, so it's irrelevant that they serve YUL to feed BEY.

Also, AF and LH offer much better connections and at higher frequencies than MS and RJ.

Definately overdue, if true. YUL is definately getting more attention from this part of the world, as it should. The amount of North/African and Middle Eastern immigrants in the Ottawa-Montreal-Sherbrooke/Quebec City area is huge.
For the longest time RAM had a virtual monopoly on the YUL-North Africa routes, but with MS, AH, and RJ adding to the mix it provides more choices, more competition, and better prices for the passengers.

Whether or not this news is true, a BEY-YUL route for MEA could definately work.

Cheers,
Imad

What I meant to say, is that demand for BEY is so big, that carriers fly to YUL in order to provide feed opportunities. MS carriers more BEY than local CAI traffic.

LH offers poor cnx to BEY, given the late departure ex.FRA... hence AF being the dominant market share leader.

I don't know about that, but when I went to YUL with KL three years ago, a large number of passengers were from these regions. My next seat neighbour was from Jordania, and those before me were from Algeria.

But before we'll see such route start, ME has to get more long-haul aircraft.

I agree. Even if this were true, it's May. Certainly by now many travellers have started making their arrangements for Summer travel. I don't doubt that if MEA wanted to start service they could have full planes by the end of July but they'd be losing out on a good chunk of the Summer travel season.

Furthermore, as FLYYUL states, Air Canada was denied the route authority at the 11th hour, I somehow doubt that MEA has gone this far through the application process to be approved the route without someone on here catching wind of it. And if they were only beginning the application process now, they'd completely miss the Summer. While I think YUL-BEY could be a succesful route year-round, it's always better to try and capture the peak season traffic, especially with new routes.

That said, YUL-BEA is a when, not an if. And when it starts, with whomever it start, it will be a success.
