Royal Jordanian / Boeing Confirm 787 Fleet Plan

Wed May 09, 2007 10:51 am

There have been numerous news articles stating RJ's intention to acquire 787-8's, through both leases and direct purchases. However, to my knowledge, this is the first official confirmation of the beginning of that process. Please correct if I am wrong:

I would say, a Boeing press release from December 2006 sounds pretty official to me.

Agree with you Roni. The RJ livery would look fantastic on the 787s, though I prefered the previous scheme with the white engines....BTW, the livery was designed by HM Queen Noor of Jordan. I hear that the golden crown sticker on the tail costs USD 25,000 (not sure if this is exagerated)

Cheers from Jordan

A good moral victory for the 787. The Size & Timeframe of the A350 will definitly rule it out as a replacement for some A310 operators.

Yes i also prefer the white engines. However, RJ's c/s i believe is the most beautiful scheme out there and they really have the other airlines beat to the bone in that regard. So i suppose our former Queen has great taste then  Wink

I hear that they have been in attempts to incorporate 'Alia' back into the brand (not sure how). Is this true?

This article states 'ILFC owns a portfolio valued at more than $ 48 billion, consisting of nearly 900 jet aircraft'.

Would ILFC be considered an 'airline'? They certainly seem to have one of/the largest fleet of airliners. Exactly how many do they have and what types are they?

Congrats to Boeing and Royal Jordanian. Hopefully more carriers that have Airbus fleets will follow suit like them.

It looks like RJ's 787 fleet could eventually be 12.

The May edition of "Airline Business" which is a sister publication to Flight International says " the carrier also has completed a new fleet plan that includes 12 787s, 12 A320s and 7 ERJ195s. The 787s, 8 of which will be leased and 4 purchased, will replace A310s and A340s by 2013".

With or without white engines the livery is amazing and it is defintely my favourite airline livery. I didn't know that Queen Noor designed it.

When RJ initially announced their intentions I believe it was for 4 directly from Boeing and 4 to be leased. I expect them to have at least 8 on the 'books' either through leasing contracts or from Boeing before the end of the year. Perhaps they require more than 8 now and are looking at 4 more. Any idea what their current Long Haul fleet it?? Also 12 A320s seems somewhat small for a Middle Eastern Airline. Do they have good coverage in the region??

Royal Jordanian / Boeing Confirm 787 Fleet Plan

Sun May 20, 2007 6:38 pm

To add. Royal Jordanian have also announced the purchase of 2 direct order 787s from Boeing

- 2 firm orders + 2 options (options to be firmed by year end)
- 8 frames to be leased which include the 2 via ILFC
- This is a new order.
- RJ intend to operate a total of 12 787s
- Officially acknowledged by Boeing as their first Middle East order for the 787

AMMAN, Jordan, May 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Royal Jordanian today announced an order for Boeing's highly sought-after 787 Dreamliner, confirming two unidentified customer purchases previously listed on Boeing's Orders & Deliveries Web site.

The announcement was made at the World Economic Forum, an event sanctioned by the Jordanian royal family and held at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center on Jordan's Dead Sea. Royal Jordanian is the first Middle East airline to announce an order for Boeing's 787, the fastest-selling new commercial airplane ever built. Royal Jordanian plans to confirm the purchase of its two outstanding options before the end of the year. The airline also intends to take an additional eight Boeing 787s on lease.

Fantastic news!!! I must say, this was expected...it was a matter of when and not if after the initial announcement some time ago and then their recent agreement to lease a couple of frames.

Congrats to Boeing, RJ (and One World!!)
