What Will CanJet Be Up To This Summer

Thu May 10, 2007 12:13 am

With the winter charter season winding down, what will CanJet be up to over the next few months? Will they continue to be flying a few weekly sun flights for Transat out of YUL & YYZ? Other than ad-hocs, what else will they be up to?

I was wondering that also. No doubt where will be some summer sun charters to the south. Indeed, some markets that support the larger SSV 752/320 aircraft in the winter might be more ideally suited to the C6 733/735 fleet in the summer.

I thought they might re-introduce some summer-only domestic service (eg. YYZ-YHZ) but no news so far.

Porter has capitalized on the Canjet domestic withdrawal by adding 2 daily YHZ-YOW and 2 daily YHZ-YUL flights this summer.
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

The lone 733 left the fleet there last year, leaving 6 735s. I guess they'll also cycle their fleet through maintenance over the summer.

A brilliant move on their part. WestJet could have jumped on this, but unstrategically decided YYT-YYC with 1/20th the O&D traffic compared to YUL or YOW-YHZ would be a better use of aircraft resources. I saw Deluce speak at a conference I was at a couple of weeks ago and he said YHZ bookings are strong. He also said surprisingly and it was to his surprise as well that so far the YHZ traffic is split almost equally between YTZ and YOW/YUL. I would have thought it would be more like a 30 YTZ/70 YUL/YOW split. I guess there is a sizeable market willing to fly a bit longer with a stop to/from Toronto in order to avoid YYZ and/or save a few $.
