PTVs In Delta 767-300 Or 737-800 Yet?

Thu May 10, 2007 10:47 pm

I have a flight next week from ATL-LAX. Departure flight is on a 767-300 and return flight is a 737-800. Are any of these aircraft type fitted with the new AVOD system? I would appreciate any insight anyone may be able to provide...

I don't think any of the 763 have AVOD installed yet. I know none of the 738 have had any put in.

Any idea when installation is supposed to start?

The 737-800s and domestic 767-300s are slated to get new slimmer seats to increase capacity by 10. I would expect that Delta will install PTVs along with the new seats at the same time. The current seats on the domestic 767-300s (except on the few leased P&W-powered aircraft) are too short to feature PTVs:

However, I believe that about half of the domestic 767-300 fleet and a little more than half of the 737-800 fleet has the leather seat covers. Is Delta still doing the leather seat updates on those aircraft? It wouldn't make sense for Delta to continue updating the existing seats on those aircraft to leather, as they are slated to get new slimline seats. I hope the new seats are the Recaro CL3610, although the CL3510 is also pretty good. I also wonder if the new slimline seats will become the standard for the 737-700s and 777-200LRs. Also, are there any plans to update the domestic first class seats on the 737-800s and domestic 767-300s? On the 737-800s, with the exception of the ex-Shuttle aircraft, the first class seats feature legrests.

I have never seen a domestic 767-300 with the leather interior. It seems like they wouldn't continue putting leather in these if they were just going to replace the seat anyways. I have seen a 737-800 with leather and boy did it look nice!

The slimline seats look great. I sure do hope they become the fleetwide economy seat!

I flown on one in the summer of last year on SJU-ATL. In addition to the leather seat covers, it also featured new signage. The No Smoking/Fasten Seat Belt/Lavatory signs were a fluorescent white rather than the yellowish incandescent type. The lavatory sign is now also symbol-based rather than text-based, displaying a large red X when occupied.

Also, I have noticed that on my flight, the IFE controls were the digital type with buttons and an LED display rather than the analog dials that were found on most of the domestic 767-300s. I don't know whether the IFE controls were new or whether that particular aircraft I flown on happened to have the digital-style IFE controls.

Sorry to bump, but also, I have heard that the domestic 767-300s with the leather interior are frequently used on ATL-SFO.

This is what I think is the breakdown of the domestic aircraft with the leather interior:
  • MD-88 - 100%
  • MD-90 - 100%
  • 757 Transcon - 100%
  • 757 (excluding Transcon aircraft) - 75-80%
  • 737-800 - 55-60%
  • 767-300 Domestic - 45-50%
  • 767-400 Domestic - less than 25%

Yes, I have heard of someone on a domestic 767-400 with the leather interior, featuring the domestic first class seats instead of BusinessElite. Since Delta eventually intends on converting all 767-400s to international configuration, I don't see Delta updating any more of the domestic 767-400s with the leather seats without a conversion to international configuration.

There are domestic 763's with leather around, I was on one last year on JAX-ATL.

I wonder what DL is thinking...are new seats coming for the 737 and 767? Is a 787 order on the table? I wish we had some insider info!!!

I just booked a flight from CDG to JFK with DL on a 763. Because it is international flight, will it have PTVs?

I flew ATL-FLL on 763 last summer with leather just installed...ship 121 I believe and LAS-ATL on 763 with leather in Oct. Smelled good but still not comfy for me....and the new LED/fluorescent signage??? With the shades up during the day, you can't tell there on. I really noticed that last month on a 757 transcon PHX-ATL trip. It was a bumpy ride and the crew kept switching the fasten seat belt signs off and on. The F/A 's were getting upset with everyone getting up with the signs on, but heck, ya couldn't tell!! Anyway, it looked much newer inside which is good

I think we all know it's not a question of will they order but more like when. The 788 has to be the replacement for the 763 and believe we will know "when" this year. I just hope there are some 783's in the mix for domestic operations. Hope we don't see the day of no DL widebody domestic flights.

Probably just observation. Both my ATL-SFO and SFO-ATL legs last month had the leather interior, FWIW.

Probably not, unless up front, Business Elite. Think there is a weight issue with adding them to coach.

Still 44 Unidentified 787s on Boeing's website...I sure hope Delta has some of these! Why do airlines wait to announce that they have ordered new aircraft?

Most likely Delta will convert some 767-300ERs to domestic configuration as the 767-300ERs are replaced by 787s on international routes. Once the time comes to retire the remaining 767-300ERs, Delta will probably find a solution to the gate space issue.
