Is that flight plan just something someone came up with or an actual filing? Seems a little odd the Dreamlifter needs to file on airways.

And now that the pieces are getting to PAE, would someone on the factory tour see the assembly?
Ask why..

That was a filed plan. All IFR flights have a designated route.

I know.. but there should be no reason (with normal, operating RNAV equipment) that they couldn't file intersections or at least distant directs. This route is really old school, and probably about 100 miles longer than it really needs to be.

Technically this particular aircraft is GPS-equipped, not RNAV equipped (I know, same thing, but apparantly not according to the FAA as the RNAV code is type/R and the flight on flightaware is B744/G where G= GPS equipped...i'm bored can you tell...).

That brings up a great question.

What do all of those letters mean?

When I flew my C172 it had a /A at the end. The 777 has a /Q. The LCF has /G. How many are there and what do they all mean?

Awesome. Thanks!

Why no RVSM? Is this because it's an older model 747-400?

Takeoff is an hour and a half late right now. It was scheduled for 6:00pm EDT. Anyone know what is going on on the ground in Charleston?

The B744 is certainly capable of RVSM. There are two possibilities here.. either 1) the B744 in Dreamlifter configuration has not been certified for flight into RVSM airspace yet or 2) something on this particular plane is not working properly that would keep them out of RVSM airspace.

Either way, it stinks to have to fly across the country below FL290.

The LCF is not certified yet and so can't be RVSM certified yet... Experimental ticket.

The /R stands for RNP (Required Navigational Performance) not RNAV. GPS is a type of advanced RNAV, but just straight up GPS does not necessarily meet RNP accuracy standards during ALL phases of flight.

The RNAV letter designations are /Y, /C, /I, while the advanced RNAV designations are /E, /F, /G, and /R.

She's over at the remote parking stand now (East of the flight line). Seaview Drive was packed this morning with folks heading to the Boeing facilities, so I imagine it's going to be a big event!

That's just normal everyday Boeing traffic...it's Seaway, by the way. Apparently, the local NBC station (KING 5) was following it on the way into PAE this morning.

Thanks for the video but the King5 site has the worst player ever. It won't continue to load while I pause and if the feed stops for a pico second, I have to watch remax commercials ad nauseum.

It was looking good for the second or two I could see it. I'll have to wait for your site.

LY4XELD, do you know what happened to Section 41? I took a gander in the factory, and that section was MIA. The rear of the fuselage was still on the carrier though...

Right now the section 41 is sitting on the ramp west of the paint bays and the delivery center, all wrapped in white.

Local time 5:45pm Everett.

I think they're just taking time with things right now. The other section had to be unwrapped and, I'm assuming, inspected, upon arrival in the factory. So, it's likely they'll be taking care of that over the weekend for Sec 41 as well.

Thanks for the heads up. IMO, this is so disrespectful to the flight deck, etc. We took a drive around PAE and I barely caught S41 out there on the ramp. Why was it removed from the cargo loader before that went to the factory? To quote the Tootsie Pop commercial, "The world may never know."

Haven't decided yet. I'll probably just follow it through EIS next summer. It's a lot of work to follow just one. That'll be a decision made for later. The plan is to be in Washington for the first flight in August. Anyone know how I get a media credential as a blogger?

you can see just as well from the Future of Flight parking lot on the other side of the field. No pass required and the view is actually better as it is about 30 feet higher than the runway and there are less obstuctions from all the blast fences etc.

Not likely, they are swamped with media requests. But they have layed out a full three days of parties for us, should be a lot of fun.
