ZED And ID90 Questions

Fri May 11, 2007 12:29 am

I am new to ZED and ID90, am planning a fairly extensive flight for next year, and was wondering if there is a way to book Bussiness class using these fares, or do they have to be coach?

No, you can not book Business. ID90 and non-rev is always book at the lowest class. Only if open seats are avalable do you get the option to upgrade. That is also at the descretion of the gate agent and just because a seat is open does it mean you get the upgrade.

Best advice I can offer after my years with an a airline. Dress nice, don't be pushy, don't be demanding, don't say it's your right to get 1st Class -Business as an employee.... be polite and say Thank You. With that all you can do is hope.

Keep in mind, with todays leaner flights you might just be lucky to even get on....let alone upgrade.

Not quite true. For example Kris, as a QX employee, you can list and travel First on NW, both dom and intl(WBC) if you purchase the right tickets. You're able to buy both coach and first passes on them. I'm sure there's other similar agreements out and about with other airlines, but that was the one that came to mind, having done it before myself.

I think you can buy a Biz class Zed ticket, check with your travel office.

Thank you again for your help on this guys, it is very much appreciated. I am very content sitting in Y when I fly. I just started wondering about options, though. Thanks again!!!!

Oh, and I a strong believer that when traveling Space A (or ZED, ID90, or whatever), one should always dress at a minimum in Business Casual.

I don't believe you can fly ID90 or Zed in F or J class, but there are some discount agreements that are ID50 that allow for premium cabins.

I agree. I'm always dressed quite nicely, usually including a tie. I've been updgraded several times, but who knows if its because of my appearance or not, one can assume though  Smile

The one and only time I had to use an ID90/ZED fare, commuting to work, DTW-EWR I had to go on NW because the CO flights weren't looking so good, I got first class, though it was the only seat left on the plane, and the gate agent said take it. And kudos to the gate agent that morning for making sure I got to work Smile

Welcome to the ID90/ZED game!

If you come over to Europe, or use your concessions or European airlines, you will find that the rules are a little different. For example, generally you only get an upgrade if Y is full; many of the airlines here insist that you waitlist (which is a real pain unless you can do it online - see the ZED website for details of who you can list with there). If you use a ZED ticket, as opposed to whatever IDxx agreement your company has with the one you want to use, then make sure you have all the carriers operating the route at the same ZED level noted on the ticket, so that you can switch carriers easily without the need for endorsements, backup tickets, etc.

It's a great way to travel, I've done many strange round-the-World routes using ZED/IDxx tickets that would be unthinkably expensive if purchased commercially.
I travel, therefore I am.

I once felt like an idiot when I was told to board the plane without an assignment and just find the seat, and I just walked into coach and sat down in the middle seat that was left. Then a week later I returned and agent came up and asked how was first class. I was like ummm. She then said that they had an empty first class seat and expected me to sit in it... But then she said next time she will be specific on what class rather than just board and find the seat. haha

It all depends on the kind of agreement your carrier has with other carriers. ZED/ID Agreements are bilateral agreements only. Some carriers do have ID/ZED agreements in business class with other carriers, others don't. So the only thing you should do is to check with your staff travel department.

I had trouble ticketing an ID90 on LH from ZRH-FRA in Y class. It would ticket in C class with no problems. This is one case when I booked and flew in C on an ID90.
This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.

That is exactly what I am planning... I was already going to travel to Moscow, and so I decided to just keep going and ake it an around the world flight... From what I have seen on our internal ZED website, it is amazingly cheaper than my other option (paying internet fares).

Thanks again for the advice!

There are some airlines which offers C class on ZED tickets

Correct. For example my airline has agreement for travelling on ZED in C class with LH. But there is of course higher fare per milleage segment than classic ZED.

as a LH employee we can book and fly in Business on many Star Alliance carriers for example SA)">UA, SA, OS, LX and even on other carriers like EK, EY, OK, JL, NW, QR, QF. Some of them are only on stand-by others are bookable. It all depends on the agreement your airline has with other carriers.
