Skyguide ATC On Trial For 2002 Crash

Tue May 15, 2007 9:56 pm

Found this through the BBC:

The documentary that National Geographic made about this was very interesting.

RE: Skyguide ATC On Trial For 2002 Crash

A very tragic event...mainly caused by a completely disorganised air traffic company that immediately blamed others after the crash and behaved very arrogant towards the victims.

Very tragic what happened to the Danish controller Nielsen who got murdered by Vitaly Kaloyev who lost his wife and two kids in the accident.

Kaloyev was sentenced 8 years in prison- Skyguide people will receive a few months without even going to jail. In my opinion the problem is deeper. Not the controllers should get punished but the officials who are responsible for the mess. Skyguide is a State owned enterprise and I think such a mess should not happen in a country like Switzerland. I'm really worrying since Skyguide hasn't improved at all, they still don't have enough controllers (a main factor that leads to such accidents) and they nearly crashed two planes into each other near Geneva recently...
