Nice! I am glad these charters have been successful. On the subject of aircraft election, I am glad that AM is able to keep its bigger birds busy with flights that have guaranteed profits. It is interesting, though, that AM's sole 763ER has any free time! I would have thought that the 763 was always flying to or from SCL, CDG and EZE. By the way, anybody knows how many 752s are left in the AM fleet?
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

XA-APB, AM's only B763 is out of the game for the next 45 days with a damaged landing gear. There are still to B752's flying with AM, one operates to TIJ twice daily and the other one operates to LIM, although the B752's will be flying to South America (SCL and GRU with technical stop overs) while XA-APB gets fixed.

Count me in. I rather see schedulled AM flights to Canada, but I'll take charters.

I'm not being a smartass but what do Mexican tourists look to do in Edmonton? What is in the area that international tourists would make the trip up there to do?

Barton, I am also surprised that AM is going to be sending 752s and the 763ER to YEG rather than 73Ws... however, I am sure there are Mexican tourists interested, as it is not the first time that AM does these flights. As to what they do, I have no clue. I guess there are some cool hiking trails and other outdoors activities. And I am sure there is shopping... you being from the city with the most sq. ft. of shopping centers per capita in the world will know very well that Mexicans will go to wherever there are good shopping malls.

As mentioned in the original posting, YEG is the gateway (about a 4 hr drive) and closest major airport to Jasper National Park, one of the most scenic areas in the Canadian Rockies, and usually a little less crowded with tourists during peak periods and possibly a little cheaper than Banff National Park further south, a little over an hour's drive west of YYC. Both are very popular with foreign tourists during both the summer and for skiers in the winter.

YEG also a few attractions of its own including one of the world's largest shopping malls (West Edmonton Mall). It was the world's largest for some years but I think there may be one or two bigger now.

And many foreign tourists who live in crowded cities and densely populated countries in Europe etc. just like the wide open spaces of Canada.

When one consider's that Edmonton's mall is the number 1 tourist attraction in Alberta its easy to see, plus being close to Jasper is a big one for the city also.Last year's flights were all full and many tourists requested a return to the city as per Aeromexico's Vancouver based rep's response.Edmonton and area has alot to offer, you would be surprised.

Edmonton is the a large tourist destination as it summers also include large festivals like the Fringe that attract many foriegn visitors.

Jasper and the Mall still are the main reasons probably year round. However local events and attractions in Edmonton are gaining more ground, as is Northern Alberta and the terriotires (which Edmonton is the gateway for).

A little off-topic... PP-VRB (777-200ER w/ GE90 engines) is quite ready to depart GIG as the next AM plane !

It probably goes to China, to the same place PP-VRA has been painted and received a new interior/seats.

Seems that an AM crew is in Rio now... waiting for some tests only to take the bird back to the air.

Thanx for the news Felipe. AM can definetly use the good news, the last few days haven't been the best; financial problems, decreasing fleet, AUS is about to be dropped, etc. this information is welcomed....

Add to that the landing gear problem of XA-APB (the one and only 763ER). So, will the arrival of ex-PP-VRB result in 3x weekly flights to NRT and more 772ER days for the MEX-GRU route?

From insider: NRT stays 2x, EZE will be upgraded from 767 to 777 at least 2x.

I heard that AM was looking at going with a scheduled service into YEG starting for fy08. Then again you hear a lot of rumours like that. Seems to be a decent move if they do. Mexican Tourist in the Summer, Canadian in the Winter.

Wow! Interesting. I recall someone mentioned here that EZE should stay a 767 route, but the truth is that MX has a very comfortable configuration in their 763ERs, so in my opinion AM would be wise to offer its most premium product to EZE if it wants to effectively compete. I hope the bilateral gets renegotiated soon because AM will not be a serious player in this market until it is able to offer one daily flight. Maybe when AM receives its 5th 772 in Nov-Dec (3rd brand new) it will add the third weekly to NRT and will make MEX-EZE an all-772ER route. It is really frustrating to see how AM is constrained in terms of long-haul fleet size... it is a shame that MEX-GRU is 2x weekly run with 777s and the rest of the week with 762s.

Does the 73W have the legs to fly MEX-YEG-MEX nonstop? I would think it does, but just want to check. I remember AM used to fly to Canada some time ago and I honestly think they should seriously consider returning. I hope AM has done its homework of calculating the potential traffic between YEG and Mexico. It would be great to see AM open this route before MX thinks of it. Now, about other Canadian cities, I dunno what to think. MEX-YYZ was loaded in the schedules last year but then pulled. Was it the landing fees? Or AC going double daily?

I would think so. From MEX, Aeromexico can probably reach any major Canadian city with the 737NG.

Amen. I think likewise, AM has some catching up to do in regards to Canada.

MX flies to Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, plus their charters to Hamilton.
AC flies from 7 points to Cancun, from 3 to Puerto Vallarta, and from Toronto and Montreal to Mexico City.
AirTransat operates charters to 5 Mexican airports (according to their website)

I think YYZ was pulled because of fees and AC canada. Places like YEG and YYC seem logical since there isn't competition, yet MX is a very popular business and holiday destination. From what I understand Edmonton and Mexico City have been really talking about how to make a strategic flight work between the two since they are so many potentials already in place.

In Avion Revue Mexico Magazine (latest edition) there is a very interesting interview with Andres Conesa, in which he states and recognices the current importance of the Argentinan market (even over the Brazilian one); and that AM will regain that market by offering their most premium product, focussing on the high yield passenger.

AM appears to be doing fine on its new MEX-EZE flight. It has been a nightmare trying to get a ticket in Clase Premier. All dates until the end of June appear sold out in several booking systems. (aeromexico, expedia, travelocity).

BTW, could anyone confirm the rumour that AM will start offering a daily All Clase Premier flight (using the service of Privatair or a similar company) to MAD for summer 2008?

Sounds great but with the bilateral as it is and with MX flying 12x weekly, this will be impossible. The high yield passenger demands not only premium inflight service but also daily flights. 3x weekly flights is not enough! If they could at least offer 6x weekly, then they would become a player. But at this point in time, AM will have to be happy with getting tourists, VFR-traffic and business passengers who need to fly on the specific dates that AM offers service.

Quoting Orbis (Reply 20):

Seriously? But what would be the aircraft? A 752? With MEX' altitude, I wonder whether an A319 can make it eastbound even with all the enhancements that, for example, PrivatAir's planes have. I guess the new 737-700ER with the additional auxiliary fuel tanks could make it, but I don't know who would lease one of these to AM. In my opinion, this is just a rumor, but it sure sounds nice. Anyone? Perhaps AM should have 2 of its 777s configured with a bigger Clase Premier cabin and a smaller coach cabin, and use those two exclusively to MAD. What do you guys think?

Finally!! Good news Felipe!! Thanks for sharing... any recent update??? Do we have a date for departure and destination??? I heard AM was not so happy with mx received at China, but ILFC was the one sending it there, they yet at AM don't have enough experience to handle such heavy mx, i think they did C on VRA, but they said they preferred to have been serviced somewhere else as they had a lot of trouble with VRA during its arrival, hope VRB has a better destiny!!!
