LH 744 With 410 Pax?

Thu May 17, 2007 4:13 pm

Hi,

A friend of mine who's working at TLV claims that LH comes to TLV with a 744 that sometimes carries 410 pax on board.

When I searched through LH website I've found that LH has 3 kind of configurations on its 744s:

16F / 52C / 310Y = 378 pax
16F / 62C / 274Y = 352 pax
16F / 80C / 234Y = 330 pax

Am I missing something here???? With what configuration LH comes to TLV???

I can't speak for LH but 410 seems like a possible number.

JAL on their FCO or YVR route fly a B744 with 449 people. That's quite a high density.
Flown on: DC-10-30, B747-200B, B747-300, B747-300SR, B747-400, B747-400D, B767-300, B777-200, B777-200ER, B777-300

I believe LH used to have 410 seat configuration, prior to the fitting of the new C seats last year.

Judging from the fact that TLV is highly a successful and a high demand route for LH (or else they wouldn't have a second frequency with an A346), I wouldn't be surprised if they sent their highest density 747s, even at the expense of premium capacity.

I know we send over the 744 with the old C-class but the total amount of seats I do not know.

Why does LH not start operating MUC-TLV aswell? 'The flights ex FRA seem to be packed every day!

They don't have a special seat configuration for TLV. That's the normal 747 rotation and the plane serves other destinations as well, same as the 346. Even with the old C class, the 747 never had 410 seats

Rumour has it that LH was politely asked by the Israeli Government to restrict it's capacity, that's why they do not serve MUC-TLV.

From what I've heard, that's some VERY British understatement  Smile

'politely' could be the rumor, but other than that, this is not a rumor at all. due to traffic right issues, LH had to leave the MUC-TLV market and stick with two dailies ex FRA.
If only pure sweetness was offered, why's this bitter taste left in my mouth.

What was the capacity of the old 742's before they were retired ? I am under the impression that they had a bigger capacity than the 744's (more Y, less C and/or F) and that's why they were employed to MIA.

Plus crew and that should approach the 410 number.

I traded with bazaris many times. ElAl001 said "410pax" and that does not include crew.

Deadheading crew are occupying pax seats.

I am flying ORD-FRA-TLV in mid June and I am flying Business class. The FRA-TLV leg on LH is on a 744 and I have been informed that it is with the new business class. According to seatguru this plane is configured to hold 330 pax. It is configured 16F 80C 234Y.

All 747-400s do have the new C class meanwhile (thus named 74P). Standard configuration is 16/80/234, however LH is able to do QCs (Quick changes, they take 3 hours afaik) to adjust the number of C and M seats according to demand...

SailorOrion,

It took so many years for LH to convert its 744s and now you are saying that they can switch from C/cl seats to Y/cl seats in just 3 hours?

Can you specify a bit on that?

Do you have any kind of source to that available?

Thanks

LH Technik can change the seating from old C to new C within that time frame, inlduing taking out a section of Y class. They do that during regular stops, aircraft coming in from somewhere, as soon as pax are left they start with the work and the machine is ready to go after about 3 hrs.

However AFAIK the a/c stays in that configuration. They do not change "according to booking situation".

According to a tv-reportage it seems to be quite common for LH to switch seats during turnarounds.
They said that it is worth the money and the time if you can add more C pax instead of Y pax.
But in the TLV case it seems to be the other way around.

There are 3 seating-versions of the 744 with the new business class:

16/52/310
16/80/234
16/66/270

744 with the old business class came in 3 different seating configurations:

16/64/310
16/78/274
16/99/234

LH 686/687 FRA-TLV-FRA is currently served with a configuration 16/52/310 (so is the case for 18MAY, 20MAY, 21MAY)
However, occasionally (according to demand) a different version is deployed on the route (for instance, 19MAY 16/80/234).

LH 690/691 is served with A346, configuration is 66/279.

Cheers (ve shabat shalom),

From what I know of LH personell, it takes 3 hours to convert the 74P from one configuration to another, assuming the plane is in FRA. LH also has Quick-Change options on the 346s, but in FRA only. No QCs can be done in MUC
