Sarkozy Meets Airbus Unions

Fri May 18, 2007 9:08 pm

According to BBC News, the new French President will be meeting Airbus Unions and other key people today.

Here is the link

I think whatever today's outcome is, the new President seems determined to solve the problems within EADS/Airbus so we may be seeing some results soon.

Despite his generally free-market approach, Sarkozy has been intimately involved in a few large private business issues in France - most notably telling retailers that they had to lower their prices. It wouldn't surprise me if this is just a prelude to his government being a bit more "hands-on" with respect to getting Airbus' house in order.

They AIN'T gonna like this! Maybe there is a reason he appointed a "socialist" as foreign minister rather than minister of labor or whatever. GO SARKO!

It is going to be interesting, no doubt. I'm not sure if his election will usher in more or less government oversight. I think a strong hand is required at this point to help set things in order.

Although we have seen in the past that the government didn't play any role in AF aircraft selection (B777 ordered instead of Airbus), could Sarkozy's new approach towards Airbus change this?

Quoting GeorgiaAME (Reply 2):

Bernard Kouchner has been expelled by the French Socialist Parties chairman Hollande - what a qualified a.h. Hollande is ! He called for "ouverture" during the presidential elections in the name of his party ,but declines to accept the "ouverure" when applied by the other side. He's just some kind of stupid, redarded entreched Socialist ,stuck in the '60 idieology. Poor Ségolène,having guy like him as partner....

Just reported on BBC:

The French state owns 15% of Airbus' parent company EADS.

President Sarkozy said that the government would do "its duty" as a shareholder if EADS decided to raise fresh capital.

Yet he added that he aims "to put the state's stake on the market", once the company has recovered.

He said a very true matter.Euro is too strong vs US$ , thus Airbus is weaker vs Boeing. That's so true !
Will see what he will be able to do for that.

He also said he will be back at TLS at the beginning of July with Angela Merkel , and then both will go to the Airbus factory at HAM latter.
Obviously he want to go very fast to bring EADS and Airbus in a better and stronger health.

I do not believe he will make pressure to AF to buy Airbus rather than Boeing.
I am impatient to see if really AF will go to 787 vs A350XWB , as some rumors told recently.

Totally agree with you .Hollande is outdated and will be well inspired to leave the presidency of the "Parti Socialiste".
For him "Ouverture" = "Gauche".This time "Ouverture" = "Droite".

Anyway , there is no exclusivity. We don't care.First thing , "Gauche" or "Droite" , only the results have a value.
