30 Min Connection Time In SLC. Enough?

Sat May 19, 2007 8:59 pm

I purchased tickets to AF for a complex itinerary for this summer starting and ending in CDG with several USA domestic flights on DL and NW. Since I purchased the tickets, DL played its favorite game i.e. changing flights schedules and numbers  banghead  and AF called me yesterday to inform me for these DL changes. We will fly from LAS to JAC via SLC and originally, we had 45 min for the connection which is now reduced to 30 min. To have already been to SLC, I think it's feasible but would like to have confirmation from more experienced SLC-users than I am. My main concern is in fact for our bags. Even a few minutes delay of our incoming flight from LAS will probably impact our bags transfer.
Thanks for any comments.

I would not worry too much about your bags or making your flight. SLC is a very easy airport to navigate, and despite the terminals being a little old, their layout is simple. Enjoy your trip. God Bless.

I think you will be fine as long as you are not connecting to the last flight of the day.

30 min should be enough. But as a pilot, and a person constantly hearing the complaints of pax on this issue, I must gripe! I'm IAH based which has about the same square mileage as the Vegas strip, and about the same amount of people aimlessly wandering around it. Airlines need to stop schedulling connections that are 30-45 min apart! All it takes is one jet pushing 4 min late off a gate, a deviation, a change in approach, or missed approach and you have a ton of mis-connects. I've seen a certain airline based in IAH schedule 30 minute connections (not 30 min board times) from an arrival at terr B, to a departure at terr E (another zip code). On time all should be fine, but today there are too many variables to be schedulling so tight.

Goldorak, when are you going? I have the same situation this summer going to MSP via SLC - 34 minutes connecting time is cutting it somewhat close. Coming back is over two hours, so I'm not worried...but like you, I hope my bag makes it. Double check when you get to the airport that the tag has a "hot bag" number - white with a black background - so it gets driven over directly from plane to plane without going through processing...

Have a safe trip and let's hope we can give positive trip reports about short connecting times in SLC!!

no, it's the 1st one but if we miss it, we'll have to wait a long time in SLC as there are not that much flights to JAC

Mine are June 29th (SAN-SLC-MSP) and July 3rd (MSP-SLC-SAN)...

I'll tell you all about it when I get back...

My mom is arriving at CDG Sunday at 2 PM from LAX...AF 69. Small world, huh?
