How Are The 748 And New 747F Doing?

Sun May 20, 2007 7:58 am

I haven't checked this in awhile, I was just wondering if the 748 pax version has picked up a significant amount of orders in the past few months. I honestly haven't been paying attention to who has ordered it and who has not. Is there any carrier we could expect to order it who has not already and which carriers have? Also, who has ordered the A380 look alike 747 freighter yet?

The 748I remains with 24 orders - 20 from LH and four 747BBJs.

The 748F picked up a six frame UFO order and a three frame order from Cargolux, bringing the total to 63 so far.

What do you mean by 'look alike" freighter. The A380 and 747 do not look alike. And the A380F order book stands at 0.

Not only that, the program died and went to limbo.

Hopefully other airlines will follow suit.

I can see this turning into an A380 bashing thread before 10 posts have been made :I

In all honestly this is where I think both companies stand on this.

Boeing has the obviously better order books where the freight market is concerned.

Airbus has the obviously better order books where the passenger market is concerned.

The 748I has not sold that well so far, but I expect there are a few buyers still, but then those buyers could also buy the A380. BA for example has not really publicly shown much interest in the 748I whereas they have with the A380.

Despite not meeting some targets, the A380 has sold relatively well, although it doesnt cover the cost of the project but then thats another story.

Cheers BA787

I keep hearing rumors that the 747-8 is a few months behind schedule and that suppliers have allegedly managed to negotiate 20-30% better terms of contract than 'expected'. If true, that wouldn't neccessarily sour the business case though, and may merely reflect the excellent market resonance on the 747F as well as the 787, where the same suppliers are part of the team.

They must not be reported since I am sure someone would have started a thread about it.

Nothing in the local news about it, and they're pretty good about sniffing stuff out.

If you mean the 747LCF Dreamlifter, its not for sale commercially.
