787 Part Deliveries And Virtual Assembly Animation

Mon May 21, 2007 7:49 am

Hello All,

As promised, I've completed phase one in a series of posts on the 787 Dreamliner. I had over 24,000 unique visitors to my site in just the month of May, and I want to thank you all for visiting.

I've now launched phase two which will focus on the final assembly of the Dreamliner in Everett now that all major structures have been delivered. I've created several graphics and videos which show where and how the first Dreamliner will be assembled, including the one below which is posted on youtube.

I've laid out a great deal of information here which will only grow as we get closer to the roll out on July 8. If you have additional information regarding the progress of the final assembly, please feel free to share it with me. All sources will be kept confidential.

Thank you all again for visiting!

The video is fabulous. You do have a flare for the dramatic.

Yeah, you may be right. Consider it a manifestation of my love for all things that fly. Haha. Thanks for taking a look.

It's pretty much in the public domain, and on top of that, I am sure that Boeing won't be suing him any time soon for this video. Much more likely to be sending a all company email out saying "ain't this cool".

I think you have successfully just passed Kseeje in presentation of Airline manufacturer material by a non airline manufacturer employee (assuming you don't work for Boeing and Kseeje doesn't work for Airbus).

Love the music. Thanks for putting it together.

Nope, definitely not a Boeing employee. However, if you know anyone in the marketing or communications department. I'm always up for a career change! Haha. It took me about a day to put together using just Windows Movie Maker. It would've gone faster, however, it crashed like 15 times.

Where can I take a look as Kseeje's stuff? I'd love to see what he's put together.

I thought this is how the 787 was assembled. This clip was released a few weeks ago.

In a very general sense, yes. But it isn't very detailed mechanically speaking. It was made by a Purdue grad who used to work for Boeing showing the general flow of the assembly line. It gives those not in the know a general idea of how the pieces come together. But it isn't 100% accurate, and is not the official CATIA simulation that Boeing uses for the Dreamliner assembly line.

Kseeje posts some interesting Airbus Branded stuff in threads every now and then. Nothing quite as spiffy as this.

Thanks, but I can't take credit for the animation! The good people at Boeing and Dassault Systems did an extraordinary job putting it all together. I just did the editing and titles, however there is a part in the animation that was not in the original one presented by Boeing. I'll leave you wondering how I got that in there. And can you tell which part it is?

Thanks for looking!

As for the music, it is from the old western movie The Magnificent Seven. Feel free to spread it around!

If you think this stuff is cool, just wait until flight testing starts. I've got some interesting ideas brewing already.

The animation from the FAL in your video showed that the engines were mounted, something the same animation on King5.com didn't show. Where did you get that animation from?

I got my footage through video screen captures. The engine mounting came from a piece that PBS did on the virtual assembly. I'm not sure where they got it. It was a good addition to the sequence though.

Also, I'm VERY open to suggestions/comments for what people would like to see on the site in the future. My mind is buzzing with ideas, but I'd love others too.

Enjoy.

The rollout is due to be in PAE, just as the first flight will be from PAE. Once flight testing starts, the planes performing the flight tests will be based at the Boeing flighttest centre in BFI.
