Delta In Flight Entertainment

Wed May 23, 2007 4:45 am

Hey guys,

I have a flight coming up from PHX - SLC - SMF. I will be on a MD-90 from PHX to SLC and a 757 from SLC to SMF. This is my first time flying Delta (typically has been Southwest and Cactus). I know some aircraft/airlines you are able to listen to ATC communications through the IFE. Is this going to be possible on either of these flights?

Thanks!
Richard

Only United gives the option of listening to Air Traffic Control. Both planes will have video IFE on overheads though (the 757 might be one of the ex-Song ones too, which would be seatback); IFE would be Delta Horizons if it's overhead on the 757 (and that's what it'll be on the MD-90), plus music programming on each plane.

SLC to SMF may very well have the touch screen PTV's. Live TV, Games, etc.. I flew DTW - SLC - SMF - ATL -DTW for a Tahoe ski trip in March. The SLC - SMF and SMF - ATL legs were both 757's with the entertainment system.

I'm flying IAD-ATL-FLL-ATL-IAD this weekend, and both ATL-FLL and the ATL-IAD flights are 757s- what are the chances I'll get the upgraded IFE on these routes? IAD-ATL is a MD-80, so I know to expect nothing there. Thanks!

Best way to check is look at the seat maps, specifically the first class cabin. If there are seven rows of F, then it's the new IFE; if there are only 6 rows, then it's overheads. On Friday's ATL-FLL, there are 3 reconfigured 757s scheduled (plus 6 non-reconfigured); on Sunday, there are 4 reconfigured 757s on FLL-ATL (3 non-reconfigured). However, on that Sunday, the FLL-ATL 757 that connects to the ATL-IAD 757, neither of those planes have been reconfigured.

That's too bad, that's about the only thing I would use the IFE for, the rest of the flight my eyes will be stuck to the window.

 Wink

Thanks!

www.seatguru.com can help you out some. I have taken their ex-song 757's and they are nice, you get live TV chennels like BBC America, CNN, ESPN, Cartoon network, Food Network, etc and some music and games. Although I heard they were gettin rid of those, so there might just only be a small chance of you getting one of those if there are any out there.
It is a short flight from SLC to SMF so if you don't ge tthat pplane you might just get a flight tracker view
ROLL TIDE!!!

If you say the date i can look it up(on Delta) and tell you if it has the PTVs but it wont have ATC because DL does not offer that.

New airliners.net web site sucks.

31-MAY-07
DAL1100 (PHX -> SLC)
DAL1167 (SLC -> SMF)

Well, I checked the seat map on Delta's web page by looking at my itenerary, 7 rows of first class on the SLC-SMF leg with the 752. So maybe I'll get lucky and be able to "play" with the new IFE a little, even though it is a pretty short flight (<2hrs).

Thanks!

DAL1167 on that date is a reconfigured aircraft (ie with live tv).

Awesome! I was on a 757 from BOS-ATL and had the PTV's. There VERY fun so take time to look through all the options on them. The in-flight trivia game questions are tough!

I was just on SMF-SLC a few weeks ago and SLC-SMF last week. SMF-SLC was on one of the regular 757s and they showed Delta Horizons. The return trip was on a 738 and they didn't turn on the IFE at all.

The other legs of that trip were on the ex-Song birds, and I agree they were very nice, except that the IFE seemed to lose the satellite signal sometimes.

Enjoy the view of Lake Tahoe, then.  Wink The Foresthill Bridge looks pretty cool from the air as well.

If you end up on an ex-Song 757, you'll enjoy it. I got to explore the PTV's on my PDX-ATL, and ATL-PDX flights in April. DL's new IFE is pretty cool. However, in coach, you'll have to pay for movies. Not that you'll have time for one... I forget about the TV, though. I think that's free in coach. My only gripe was on my ATL-PDX flight, the satelite TV went out for the majority of the flight in my seat. When I took a walk back to the rear of the plane to stretch my legs, I noticed dozens of others had no signal as well.

The music library is pretty neat, too. You can compile your own play lists, or listen to entire albums. The variety is pretty nice. I barely had time on my 5+ hour flight to surf through all the options, so good luck trying to do it on such a short hop!

Also, the moving map is pretty nice, too. The only thing I didn't like, is how it kept switching from zoom view, to wide view...From spanish to english. I wish DL would give the option of not having that happen. It also switches to the flight info screen of what altitude, temperature, miles flown, etc.

Have a good flight!

Currently all of this is available only on the ex-Song 752s, the 777s, the eight international 764ERs, and about 70-75% of the 763ER fleet (in BusinessElite only). They will be available on the ex-TW 752s arriving later this summer as well.

The Satellite TV programs are available only on the ex-Song 752s; the other international aircraft will feature episodes of various TV dramas and comedies.

Selected 738s and domestic 763 will get this entertainment system starting later this year.
