Air France Announces A3XX Routes.

Thu Aug 03, 2000 11:57 pm

Air France has announced that it will use its A3XX on 5 initial routes as reported by the magazine flight international.
These are :
CDG-JFK
CDG-MIA
CDG-YUL
CDG-LAX and
CDG-NRT.
Air France chairman, Jean-Cyril Spinetta was reported to have mentioned that the airline was facing problems in term of capacity to these destinations.

Also, Emirates is planning to introduce its A3XX to routes from Bubai to LHR, BOM, BKK, MNL and other destinations to Saudi Arabia and Australia. Emirates hasn’t finalised the routes though. It is understood that the airline will configure the plane with 12 First Class seats and 68 Business Class for a 575 seat layout weighted towards economy traffic.

Happy Flying,

AF Cabin Crew.

Very interesting
It seems that the A3XX is being incorporated in the strategic planning of AF and of the other airlines that consider employing it.
So now we must wait and see whether A3xx will be finally produced, as planned, and if its specifications will be met as promised.

As Air France and Emitates have announced intended routes, can we expect to see some positive moves from airlines that compete on those routes towards the A3XX and 747X.

Will those airlines decide to go for frequency or feel the need to operate similar large aircraft in order to compete on equal terms. I see a choice between using a sardine can 777 or going VLA with more passenger space. It is possible that initially, operators will not pack the A3XX to capacity, but offer enhanced seat spacing as a sales point with the emphasis on comfort.

This announcment by AF may prompt competitors into action in order to secure early order positions.

Hi,

WOW, it'll be excellent to see AF's A3XX at YUL, by the way AF has two daily B747 flights to YUL, will they be replaced with one daily A3XX flight? how is AF's route to YUL doing, will it be profitable for them to use A3XX?

AF Cabin Crew,
I would be interested to hear your source of info for Emirates' A3XX routes. As far as I know EK has only made regional references to the use of its A3XXs.

We know about LHR, and the other routes you mentioned look like good candidates. On Saudi Arabia, I think the main route will be Jeddah. I think BOM will be heavily dependent on the Indian govt. increasing capacity restrictions. While they have shown some willingness to do so recently, in order to operate the A3XX to BOM frequently it would take a big increase in capacity allocation.

How many seats will be configured for their A3XXs? Is their really a 500+ seat demand for MIA-CDG?

Ishky15,

I have news for you. For adult vacationers (especially among the "jet set"), MIA is a very popular vacation spot indeed.

The development of the South Beach area into perhaps the hottest nightclub spot in the world in the last 15 years has attracted a massive worldwide crowd to visit that place, and believe me, a lot of people want visit Miami due to this, along with the area's other warm-weater attractions.

This is why CDG-MIA is going to be one of the first routes for AF's A3XX fleet--they have the demand for it.

But "jet set" people a) either fly First Class or b) have their own planes to fly to Miami. I would think that the cruise line traffic departiing Miami has a lot to do with it.

Well, a lot of "jet set" people also fly Business Class, too. The fact the A3XX has a large First and Business Class area indicates there is big demand for premium-fare services on many routes.

However, I did forget that Miami is perhaps the world's busiest cruise ship port.  That explains why (besides the traffic to Latin America) that this airport is so busy.

AF has enough booking on CDG-MIA for an A3XX since for the time being it uses a 747 daily and 3 more flights weekly also on 747.A3XX will allow to suppress the 3 extra weekly flights

Hello Emirates777 !

I got my information from Flight International 1-7 August 2000.
On page 17, they mention Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, EK's chairman.
Also, I did say that nothing was finalised about the future route structure.

Happy Flying,

AF Cabin Crew.

Hey,
any chance that we will see the A3XX in Atlanta with it being a hub for Delta and with their alliance with Air France.

Thanks
