DL 737-700s Ordered?

Thu May 24, 2007 9:49 am

I remember reading that DL placed an order for 737-700s last year. How many of these birds did they order and do they have planned routes or a planned hub for them. I know they start receiving their 752s this summer when do the new 737s join the fleet? Thanks for any info.

Delta has ten 737-700s on firm order.....with a further ten on option I believe. Delta has further commitments with Boeing for additional 737s and other airplanes, and those deals continue to be worked out between the companies. The 73Gs are due sometime in 2008: rumors suggest that the 73Gs will fly longer thin routes......there is speculation that the airplanes will be based in ATL (and maybe JFK) to operate thin routes to Latin America (think some Caribbean destinatons, Mexican cities, and destinations in Central America and northern South America). As for the ex-TW/AA 752s, 13 are scheduled to join the DL fleet starting in early 2008 (not this summer) and it seems that the primary mission for these airplanes will be transatlantic services out of JFK although some think that atleast some of the airplanes may be assigned to some Hawaiian services.

There will be updates in the near future regarding Delta and their fleet plan.
Some see lines, others see between the lines.

I remember that order also but our internal order book only shows 738 and 777 firm orders through 09.

1/08 3 738
2/08 3 738
1 772
3/08 2 738
1 772
4/08 2 738
5/08 2 738
6/08 2 738
1/09 1 772
2/09 1 772
4/09 1/772

The Boeing order book doesn't give future delivery dates only numbers. It shows 10 737-700, 48 738 and 5 777-200LR as unfullfiled orders.

Approx. 2 months ago, Steve Dixon reported the ex-TW/AA 757s will be JFK based. Now, I assume things may change but he sounded as if DLs decision is final.

I believe the 737-700s will be ATL based; I think they're going to be used on routes where they need a high-performance plane but the 757 is just too much capacity. Some Caribbean markets plus some of the Colorado cities would be getting these planes. With that being said, I could also easily see them doing some RONs at Southeastern airports, flying to cities such as TLH, GSO, CAE, HSV, etc. as a last flight out in the evening and the 0600 or 0730 departures back to ATL, where they go do a turn in the Caribbean during the day, and return to ATL in time for a 2000-2200 departure to the RON city.
