Midwest Airlines MD80's

Fri May 25, 2007 10:41 am

Can anyone tell me if Midwest is still operating the MD80's and if so which routes they are on. Unless they are used for charters exclusively. I know they had one into CVG a few weeks back dropping of the Brewers. All help appreciated.

YX currently has 11 MD80's in the fleet (Correct me if I'm wrong) and they are supposed to get two more this summer. The MD-80's fly from MKE to leisure markets such as LAX, FLL, MCO, LAS, etc...

The MD-80's operate the so called SAVER service and offer standard 2X3 seating throughout. If it is listed as SAVER it is an MD-80. This compares to the SIGNATURE service which is 717 2X2 Business Class service throughout.

There's been a lot of talk about it, but I don't think anything official has happened there yet.

Like Floridaflyboy stated, AUS along with JAX have been rumored to get YX service. Its been a while since YX has announced anything new, so it could be in one of their next announcements. These routes would likly be with the CRJs though, not 717's/MD-80's.

FLL, MCO, TPA, RSW, MCI, SFO, SEA, LAX, LAS, PHX are the cities that see the Saver Service MD-80s atleast once a day or will soon with new announced service. All the red lines.

And whatever happened to their Houston service?

It was the worst idea they had at the time. Flying to Hobby is a joke when 85% of traffic to Houston from MKE is connecting traffic at IAH. Their loads on the 717 were mid 30s at best.

Are the 11 MD-80's being replaced with the 15 737-700 that were ordered on Wednesday?  duck

I also believe DEN has an MD-80 flight or two.

Looking at Flightaware, it seems DEN is all MD-80 from YX at the moment...3 flights

I was hoping that the new direct service from Milwaukee to Seatle would be Signature Service. This will be my most frequent flight in the next several yaers.

The 717 -- Midwest's aircraft configered in 2x2 Signature Service -- do not have the range to fly from Milwaukee to the west coast. So those nonstops must be Saver M80's.

Midwest announced that later thsi year they will reconfigure the Saver M80's with a few rows of 2x2 Signature seats and to replace the cloth Saver seats with leather. THey have not yet rolled out how they will price those, however.

Early word is the "Signature Class" seats will be sold as an upgrade to the fare paid for the saver seat, I am not sure how this will work though. We will soon find out.

Thanks...I wondered how they were going to do that. I'm an executive-level frequent flier and so far there haven't been any details in any of the numerous direct-mail advertising and letters we get. But once it is firm and rolled out pubicly I'm sure we'll hear about it.

As the MD80's do a lot of Sports Charters I was thinking one or two where in the 2 X 2 seating for that purpose, am I mistaken ?

Thanks

I prefer it being the other way around  stirthepot

The majority of the MD-80's are in Saver Service, however there's one that's in signature, like what LGA777 said, that is mainly used for charters, but can be found replacing a 717 here and there.

They use a 74-passenger M80 (significantly more deluxe than just 2x2 seating, with video screens, conference table, club seating, etc.) for sports charters. I believe there are two of them configured as such right now.

There is also one M80 still in 2x2 Signature configuration which is kept as a spare.

I'm glad that Midwest continues to utilize the MD-80, I must go for a ride one of these days as to include it in my log book, finally got an Alaska MD-83 (N944AS) a few weeks ago.

Oh right..duh...hehe. They don't let us think when we're at work...hehe. It's the 717 during the off season I guess. I don't really pay much attention to those flights as I'm rarely over there these days.

You mean there are still enough Skyway flights left to keep you busy? Big grin

Factor in the fact that a lot of the good people are spread thin because we have too many idiots so someone has to keep the flights somewhat on track. Oh yeah, don't forget the overload of work that those blasted SkyWest CRJs bring us. It takes 3 people to park one and 2 to unload it where as a 328 can be parked with only 1 person and unloaded with 1 if we absolutely have to.

I know you guys work hard over there, I was just commenting on the fact that they've been canceling enough AL flights lately that at times you wonder how many are left. Hell, we had all but one of ours axed on Thursday ... be glad you don't have to rebook people!
