UA To KUL? Possible?

Sat May 26, 2007 2:02 am

UA had plans to start service to KUL back in the late 80s. Wonder why they didn't turn this into a reality.

Wonder if they will ever fly to KUL, let's say via SIN or HKG

I don’t think this route will ever fly. The demand for KUL very low yield, besides UA doesn’t have spare airplanes to fly that route.

There are aircraft lying in Hong Kong overnight. They can do something similar to Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore

Correct

And why bother via SIN if they can put pax on SQ? Even their SIN is not a non-stop flight, so a 2-stop to KUL will not work.

I thought UAL had plenty of 744 to spare, so having an aircraft available to service the route isn't the issue. Maybe it's just not a high yield market as it once was. It'd be nice though.

No, they dont.

KUL is probably not a priority for UA, US-KUL demand is not very strong and, as pointed out, yeilds are not very good, thus, UA has better opportunities elsewhere (such as the re-instated LAX-HKG service). If UA were every to fly to KUL, it would be via their NRT hub to maximize connecctions between the US and KUL.

It's always possible they'll tag it onto a flight from the US into NRT operating on a 777-200 or even a 763, if rumors of 763 transpacific service (SEA-NRT) come true.

Just a thought however, doesn't UA codeshare with ANA on a NRT-KUL flight already, and perhaps also on an Asiana ICN-KUL flight?

UA's presence in Malaysia is Kota Kinabalu with code-share operated by ASIANA.

ANA doesn't fly to KUL, they codeshare with MH.

Northwest gave it a try but via KIX but they gave it up at the end.

Possible, but really not likely........the NRT-KUL-NRT is a pretty long run (about 7-8 hours each way I think) and the demand/yeilds are just not there to support the flight.

I honestly dont know......but if this is the case, UA has even less incentive to send its own metal to KUL.

NW codeshares on KL to KUL via AMS, although the routing via Europe is rather devious from the US west coast.

I don’t think there is any aircraft that remain over night (RON) in HKG. The daily ORDHKG continues to SIN, as the SFOHKG continues to SGN.

You gotta be kidding me right? UA is so short of long haul aircraft right now it’s not even funny.

Well, this is their alternative way to keep a presence in Malaysia.

I seriously doubted any crews or even any passengers would fly a schedule like 1am departure and 3am arrival.

When ORD-HKG has the second flight, I believe that plane has a long wait at HKG, but I may not be correct on that.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

When LAX-HKG restarts the aircraft will sit for something like 18 hours in HKG.

That is a turnaround flight, in HKG for about 2 hours.

I sure as hell hope we see UA's metal back in India before we see this route, not that I think for one minute we will see it anyway.

Wonder if they will fly the aircraft to elsewhere like DEL or NRT. Or BKK

ANA is looking for partners in India to connect Mumbai - Bengalooru. UA could give it a try for NRT-BLR...

Looks like once the 28OCT schedules take affect, there will be a B747-400 sitting around HKG for 18+ hours if no other routes are planned from HKG.

UA895 ORDHKG will turn for the continuation to SIN
UA809 SFOHKG will turn for UA867 HKGSGN
UA867 LAXHKG will RON in HKG

Wonder if LAX-HKG-KUL or LAX-HKG-DXB will work. Or maybe LAX-HKG-DEL

Sorry to disappoint, but the local spotting community suspect the picture to be a fake.

Nobody, be it a local spotter or airport staff, has reported seeing a UA aircraft there. And the shooting angle is not consistent with other photographs from SZB.

Since VN will apparently delay its flights to the USA for a while, I would guess that UA’s third Hong Kong flight will go on to Hanoi rather than KUL.

Let's be realistic. What fifth freedom do they have in Hong Kong?

To my understanding, HKG-BKK (Daily back in the late 90s but was suspended), HKG-SIN, HKG-NRT, HKG-DEL, HKG-SGN etc etc
