WN Fleet Painting Update

Sun May 27, 2007 7:34 pm

Hey all, I've got a question that I'm hoping some of our resident WN experts may have the answer to. I was wondering if anyone has any sort of stats regarding the number of planes that have yet to receive the Canyon Blue treatment? If anyone has an exact number or percentange of planes still in the "classic" paint that would be great! A side note on this topic, I fly WN approx. once or twice a week and for the past 8 flights, I've had all classics and thought that was neat, )granted one was N711HK, Herb's special livery plane) but I was thinking that 8 in a row might be more of an abberation nowadays. Thanks in advance!

Isn't it true that two aircraft will remain in the original scheme?

Well, N711HK is obviously one of them, but I haven't heard about a second a/c staying in the 'mustard rocket' livery...

I'm pretty sure this one is staying, so that's two.

I heard 4 will be staying. One for each of the original cities.

I believe it's three a/c remaining in the old mustard colors....for the three cities

DAL, SAT and i believe HOU(?)

This new "classic" scheme really looks great. The mustard brown is a nice metallic gold and the bottom is a deeper red rather than that orangy red. I would rather see the whole fleet painted this way, only with the curvy lines of the canyon blue.

If I remember correctly from that special issue of Airways magazine, WN will keep three 737-700's in the original livery. All the other 737's will be repainted into the Canyon Blue livery.

I heard a total of 3 aircraft will have a special gold version of the classic livery. Two have already been painted...N711HK and N714CB. I can't confirm the third aircraft, but I have heard it will be N792SW...the last 737 delivered to the company in the old colors. I heard that at the same time I heard N714CB would be one of them, and that turned out to be correct. So, I'm anticipating we will see N792SW in gold before long.

I think N714CB turned out much better. It has the white trim around the cockpit and passenger windows. It looks really sharp. 711 looks rather odd since it lacks that white trim.

I'm really begining to wonder if Canyon Blue was the wrong choice. I saw a few in BNA yesterday while out on engine runs at the blast fence across from the WN gates that really looked like crap. The blue was badly faded and sun bleached....! With the high purple content in Canyon Blue it's only a matter of time until they all start to look that way

I remember reading here a few years ago that the Canyon Blue scheme has a shorter life span than the old colors. Many of the early Blue paint jobs are really fading badly.
